Portland Beer Week: Recommendations for foodies, hop lovers, Belgian beer fans and more

To help you pick the best of Portland Beer Week based on your schedule I decided put together a listing of all of the events that I could find (both official and unofficial) and organized them by venue or brewery so that you could know what’s going on at your favorite spots each evening. It’s also printable – so you can plan out your entire week. Please double-check any events with the venues, however, as some of the details may change (and tickets might sell out!).
The Beer Babe’s Printable Portland Beer Week Schedule
Some highlights for the hop lovers:
- Nov 1 – Novare Res – Maine Beer Company Night. Not everything that Maine Beer does is hoppy, but when they do hoppy, they do it right.
- Nov 3 – LFK – Peak’s Bar Hop Project – Pouring Peak Organic’s Fall Summit and IPA, and dry hopping your beer right in the glass. Doesn’t get fresher than that.
- Nov 6 – The Thirsty Pig (4-7pm) – Blind IPA Tasting of 10 IPAs. Win $500 if you can correctly name all 10.
- Nov 7 – Bier Cellar (5:30-7:30pm) – Lagunitas and Maine Beer Company Tasting.
- Nov 7 – Local 188 – Hop Night: All Things hoppy will be featured on the menu and on draught.
- Nov 8 – LFK – IPA Wars (6pm) – Brewers battle it out with IPAs.
For those that want to increase their beer education:
- Nov 5, 6, 7 – Urban Farm Fermentory – Fermentation demos, talks and tastings including a hard cider tasting on the 5th, homebrew tasting on the 6th and a kombucha demonstration and starter instructions on the 7th.
- Nov 6 – Bull Feeny’s – Founders of Maine Brewing Beer Dinner (6-8pm) – 4 course meal with a pairing of Geary’s and Shipyard beers with each course. David Geary and Alan Pugsley will be speaking about the history of craft brewing in Maine and across the country. Call to reserve your spot – Limited to 35 attendees.
- Nov 6- Salvage BBQ – Brews and Q’s – Representatives from breweries around town will be on hand to answer anything you want to know about beer (and then some).
For the foodies:
- Nov 1 – Nosh – Allagash/Oxbow night – Belgian inspired cuisine will be paired with beers from Allagash and Oxbow.
- Nov 3 – Outliers – Stillwater Ales brunch – call for details.
- Nov 4 – The Thirsty Pig – New England Beer Dinner ($50) featuring Hill Farmstead, High and Mighty, Cambridge Brewing Company, Rising Tide, White Birch paired with a five course Ne England style dinner.
- Nov 6 – In’finiti Fermentation & Distillation – Fermentation and Distillation Dinner ($55) featuring a five course pairing with beer and spirits, as well as live brewing happening at the same time.
- Nov 7 – East Ender – Marshall Wharf Beer Dinner ($65) featuring 6 Marshall Wharf Drafts paired with a five course menu. Call to reserve a seat.
- Nov 5, 6 – Maine Brew Bus – Traveling Brewers Dinners. Featuring Bunker Brewing and Rising Tide, these tours will take you to locations where the beer is paired with a dish, and they do all the driving. Visit www.themainebrewbus.com for details and tickets.
For the Belgian beer fans:
- Nov 2 – Novare Res – Oxbow Rare Bottle Tasting (6-9pm) – Head brewer Tim Adams will conduct a guided tasting of rare and vintage barrel-aged beer from Oxbow’s stash of bottles. Limited to 24 participants.
- Nov 5 – The Thirsty Pig (6-10pm) – Belgian Night featuring taps from Pretty Things, Ommegang and Allagash paired with Silver Moon Creamery Cheese. Mmm.
- Nov 6 – Novare Res – Allagash/Shelton Brother’s Party: The Shelton Brothers import most of the Belgian beer into to U.S. so you know there will be some amazing selections on. Paired with Allagash, that’s basically a Belgian beer lover’s dream.
