Have you seen the new TLC Show “Extreme Cheapskates“? It’s the only show on TV that show makes Honey Boo Boo look like a normal family. The show follows ‘extreme cheapskates’ in their everyday ventures to save money. One women actually pees in a jar instead of the toilet, saving money on water. While, another women feeds her entire family with food she picks out of the dumpster. What’s most fascinating about these people is that every single one of their obsessive activities has a financial motive behind it.
Since my divorce in 2009, I’ve completely changed the way that I spend and earn money, and as embarrassing as it is, I’ve actually adopted a somewhat extreme way of saving money. I save money by only washing my hair once a week. Now before you get all “ewww” on me, listen up….my hair is fairly dry, so several days of natural oils, actually make my hair look much better. This tactic would likely not work if I had super oily hair and sweat a lot.
In between washings, I use dry shampoo. Dry shampoo comes in a can and sprays on just like hairspray. I use it in my bangs area & roots about half way through the week. By washing my hair only once a week, not only am I saving money on water, but I’m also saving money on shampoo, conditioner & electricity.
What are some of the extreme tactics you employ to save money? Share your cheapstake ways in the comments!
P.S. Now that I’ve written this article, I’m not sure which is the more embarrassing admission, that I watch Honey Boo Boo or that I only wash my hair once a week
