Cause some ruckus at Rap Night over at The Big Easy in Portland

By: Holly Nunan

Sweet, wonderful, Wednesday! What is up!? The fact that you have finally arrived means we are half way through this treacherous week and making our way into the freakin’ weekend. All right, I might be acting a bit dramatic calling it ‘treacherous,’ but I’m pretty certain you’re all just as happy as myself to have made it this far. Here’s what’s happening around town this evening for all of you who are prepared to celebrate this joyous occasion!

Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland invites you to warm up this Wednesday with some stellar sounds courtesy of Octane. Octane is a group of individuals brought together by local musician Mike James Hayward to recreate jazz and swing standards through Hayward’s own unique interpretation of the genre. There’s never a cover charge and it’s always a fantastic time so swing on by beginning at 8 o’clock this evening.

Right on down the street, over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port, the Squid Jiggers return to the stage this evening with their own brand of folk music that’s infused with barley, sugar, yeast and hops, basically some good ol’ fashioned drinking music! Tonight the fellas get the good times rollin’ right around 8. It’s free and they certainly won’t run out of beer, so check it out.

If you’re looking for some free open mic action, then down to Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge over on Preble Street in Portland for this week’s installment of their open mic night. Featuring host and local singer-songwriter Dustin Saucier, tonight’s free event is a great place to play some new tunes or take in some new sounds from fresh talent.

The Clash of the Titans returns to Empire Dine and Dance in Portland with a brand new season of match ups this evening. Tonight beloved indie rockers Weezer take on Pavement for a battle of the nerd rock. Things get underway upstairs at Empire right around 9 o’clock.

The talent-laden ruckus known as Rap Night descends upon The Big Easy in Portland tonight. Every Hump Day local emcees and beat makers Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra join forces to host their epic weekly party featuring sme of the biggest and brightest rappers around. Things get fresh starting at 9 o’clock, so head downtown and check it out.
