When Particles Collide rock out as Green Day for tonight's Cover to Cover

Truth be told, I’ve had Friday on my mind since Monday so I am incredibly happy that the weekend is mere hours away!  It’s so close that I can almost taste the vodka sodas that I have so rightfully earned this week, so fill ‘er up and get out there this weekend!  Let’s go!

There are a few things happening early in the evening tonight starting with another installment of Frugal Fridays over at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland.  Beginning at 5 o’clock Portland’s own The Substitutes will be bringing you the best in old school pop and rock with everything from The Beatles to The Who to The Monkees and more, even better this evening’s early show is absolutely free.  So if you’re looking to wind down your workweek with some good ol’ fashioned rock n’ roll, swing on by The Empire and check ‘em out.

Folk-rocker Brian Patricks will be providing the soundtrack to your Friday night Happy Hour as he’ll be playing original songs coupled with cover tunes that everyone knows and loves during a free set at the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland. Beginning at 5 o’clock you can check out some tunes courtesy of Mr. Patricks.

The State Theatre on Congress Street in Portland welcomes super soul rocker Martin Sexton to the stage this evening. The genre-defying Alternate Routes will start things off right around 8 o’clock.

Mayo Street Arts welcomes a stellar evening of local music to their stage tonight as Lisa/Liza, Greg Jamie (of o’death), Wesley Allen Hartley and Acid Smoker come together for sounds varying with everything from psych-folk to low-fi. This should definitely be one heck of an earhole-pleasin’ show so check it out as things get underway right around 8pm this Friday evening.

Things get funky upstairs at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland tonight as three local acts join forces for an evening of psychedelic/indie rock n’ roll. Starting at 9, you can catch sets from Coke Weed, An Evening With and Micah Blue Smaldone.

After a month long hiatus The Big Easy in Portland brings back its weekly series known as Cover to Cover with a special Friday edition of jams. Tonight rock n’ roll duo When Particles Collide teams up with local bassist Jason Elvin to bring Green Day’s 3rd studio album Dookie to life. Not only will When Particles Collide be rocking out an album that I’m pretty sure a lot of us rocked out to on our Walkmans back in the day, but they’ll also be starting the night off with some original tunes. Things get cranking righ around 9, so stop on by and join the party.

Three DJs and three separate eras of house music come together at Flask Lounge in Portland for tonight’s Slow & Low event which will feature Mr. Dereloid, Chris Gauthier and Ed Garrison dropping some of the best deep bass driven house music around. Things get started, with absolutely not cover charge, around 9 o’clock.

Geno’s Rock Club is gearing up for a Friday night rock n’ roll show – fancy that! Tonight you can check out the sounds of Great Western Plain, MiniBoone, Bunny’s a Swine and RSO starting right around 9pm.

If you find yourself north of Portland tonight stop on by Mainely Brews in Waterville where Girls, Guns & Glory will rock you solid with their unique blend of rockin’ country tunes. The fellas get things going right around 9.

More in the way of country tunes will be taking place at the Easy Street Lounge in Waterville as The Cowboy Angels saddle up to play you the best classic country covers all night long. Crooning, toe tapping, and twang starts at 9 o’clock.
