Thursday night throw down!

There is no doubt about it—I got right after it last night in honor of one of my favorite holidays.  Thank you, Wednesday and thank you to all the talented musicians who provided me with an excellent soundtrack to an excellent All Hallows Eve. Per usual, there’s a lot of great things happening across town and beyond so let’s check out what this Thursday is all about, shall we?

If you’re looking for some funk, soul, and R&B to ease you on into the start of the weekend then make your way over to The Frog & Turtle in Westbrook where Adam and The Waxmen will be delivering smooth sounds to your earholes starting at 7pm.

If you’re looking to check out some old timey, roots/bluegrass music, then check out Tricky Britches who will be playing a set over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille in Portland.  They’ll be serving up their own style of back porch jam session bluegrass starting right around 8 o’clock.

Pop-rocker Will Gattis and his band The Today gear up for the release of their brand new EP, The Living Dream, at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland tonight.  Get ready for some upbeat, piano-driven tunes from Gattis and company as Kourus and There Is No Sin join them on stage tonight for what should be one heck of a Thursday night party.  Things get cranking right around 9 o’clock.

Tonight USA Waste gets ready to bring the thunder to Geno’s in Portland tonight for the release of their latest album.  The band teamed up with Ohio’s Abortive Issue to put out a split 7”, which they’ll be giving away free to the first 30 people through the door.  The Ear Bleeds, The Outfits and The Money$ join in on tonight’s rock and roll adventure, which gets underway right around 9.

Local pop-rockers Kilcollins will be doing their thing tonight over at RiRa in Portland for their regular Thursday night gig.  Rocking and/or rolling gets underway right around 9 tonight with covers of tunes that everyone knows and loves from the fellas in Kilcollins.

The Big Easy‘s regular, chilled out Thursday crowd will be shuffling in right around 9:30 for this week’s Band Beyond Description show. What to expect: hula hoops, hippies, and good times for all with Portland’s favorite Grateful Dead cover band, who actually cover way more than just The Dead. So if you’re into mellowing your mind, get your can over to The Big Easy.

North of Nashville will be rocking it tonight over at Brian Boru right around 9:30pm and won’t stop the party until last call. Jay and Andrew infuse their love of pop music with a little bit of bluegrass for a sound that is truly American.  This is a free show and always a lot of fun, so check it out.

Start the weekend early tonight at Bull Feeney’s in Portland with some live roots, reggae, and dub-step with the Gorilla Finger Dub Band.  Tonight you can swing by as these fellas come together to provide you with some extremely danceable party music for those of you who appreciate all things reggae and dub.  You can check out Gorilla Finger Dub Band featuring Jonah Bruce of The Running Gags on sax for free as they take the stage right around 9.

The folk acoustic four piece known as Yellow Roman Candles will be playing a show at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this evening.  Tonight’s show starts at 10 o’clock.

If you’re south of Portland tonight there are a couple of fine shows to check out starting with the high energy, three-piece rock and roll band Lit On The Flash who will be rockin’ Fury’s Publick House in Dover, NH with their own brand of progressive, psych rock.  Things get thrown into high gear beginning at 9.

Two Portland acts will be bringing the party to The Stone Church in Newmarket, NH tonight starting at 9 o’clock.  Alt-country rockers The Mallett Brothers Band teams up with the soulful rock n’ roll act Anna & The Diggs for a Thursday night throw down.
