The Upper Crust & Covered in Bees rock Geno’s in Portland tonight

Sweet flippin’ flapjacks, it is finally Friday! (Still working on that catchphrase — I know, it’s pretty awesome.) It’s also First Friday around Portland so there’s lots to do! I’ve gotta say I’ve not been this excited for a Friday since, well, last Friday, and thankfully tonight lives up to the hype, so let’s check it out!

Local acoustic duo Harvard Cavemen will be serving up a bunch of classic cover tunes at JJ’s Eatery in Old Orchard Beach this Friday evening. Join the fellas for some free, all-ages fun as tonight’s show gets underway right around 6:30.

Get your Friday night underway with some acoustic, light rock favorites at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street with local artist Jeff Cusack as he plays a free set of songs starting right around 7.

The Dum Bums will be rocking out at Pedro O’Hara’s in Lewiston this fine Friday evening. Swing through and let these talented dudes entertain you as tonight’s free show gets swinging right around 8.

Sublime tribute band, Badfish returns to the stage of The State Theatre in Portland tonight as they party in celebration of tonight’s viewing of Teton Gravity Research’s global ski odyssey, Almost Ablaze. Things get cranking at The State right around 7 during tonight’s all-ages event.

The Blues Prophets will be playing a set of blazing tunes at One Longfellow Square in Portland. These fellas have been playing on stages since 1976, performing with the likes of Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Johnson and many more. If you’re looking for some solid blues tunes to start off you weekend, make some moves to OLS at 8 o’clock tonight.

Local duo October Road will be live at Elements on Main Street in Biddeford. The pair will be performing a set of Americana and folk rock tunes during tonight’s free show starting at 8pm.

The local act performs on such unique and beautiful instruments as oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern micro-tonal zither), nay (ancient Middle Eastern reed flute), and Middle Eastern percussion. Boston hard rock and rollers The Upper Crust will be properly partying at Geno’s Rock Club in Portland tonight. For those unfamiliar, members of the band adopt the personae of 18th Century aristocratic ninnies and sing songs that are themed in the very same vein. Portland death punkers Covered in Bees will kick things off as tonight’s not-to-be-missed engagement gets underway promptly at 10pm.

It’s Friday night so you better be ready to bust a move at Flask Lounge in Portland where DJ Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE dance party event. This month marks LOVE’s 4 year anniversary and to celebrate O’Sullivan will be joined by special guest Brenden Wesley for a non-stop, free dance party featuring some of the best house, techno and disco tunes around. Shake it like a salt shaker starting at 9 o’clock.

If you’re kicking it in Bangor tonight make your way down to Paddy Murphy’s to check out Maine’s premier rockabilly band The Crown Vics as they bring their own rock and roll riot to the stage starting at 9:30pm.

North of Portland, at Chummies in Ellsworth, The Blast Addicts will be partying all night long with straight up rock n’ roll. Starting at 9:30, bust out those Party Pants and get ready to bust out some moves with this super fun rock band.

Local pop-rock act Doubting Gravity celebrates the release of their record, Evolution with a party upstairs at Empire in Portland tonight. Anticipate lots of new material from the band as they perform cuts off the album during tonight’s party, which will also feature a performance by alt-country, roots rock act, Joe Gallant and The Transit. Things get underway right around 9:30, so swing through and have some fun this Friday.
