The Still rocks your Tuesday with a free show at Portland Lobster Company

Hopefully we’ve all got a little momentum going after the long holiday weekend and are ready to go with the flow and roll with the punches this Tuesday. Thankfully there’s a ton of great stuff to check out if you’re feeling the need to let loose. Here we go!

Get your Tuesday started with some free tunes at Portland Lobster Company as The Still, featuring local musician Ryan Halliburton and a handful of his talented pals, will be playing an all ages gig out on the deck starting right around 6. It’s the first week of September and soon the leaves’ll be changing color and there’ll be a chill in the air, so get out there and squeeze in as much outdoor fun as possible.

SPACE Gallery on Congress Street in Portland presents a special screening on Finding Fela. Finding Fela tells the story of Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s life, his music, and his social and political importance. His formation of Afrobeat created a musical movement to express revolutionary political opinions against the dictatorial Nigerian government of the 1970s and 1980s. Tonight’s film event gets underway at 7:30pm.

Local artist Calen Perkins will be taking to the stage of Blue on Congress Street this Tuesday for an evening of songs and stories. Stop into this unique and intimate venue as Calen begins performing right around 7 o’clock.

Local bluegrass musician Jon Cooper and a few pals will join musical forces this evening to bring their unique brand of Americana to life at Otto’s lower Congress Street location. Check out Cooper’s act, Chicken Wire as the band livens up your Tuesday with some quality tunes starting at 8 o’clock.

Flask Lounge in Portland presents another open mic night specifically designed for DJs. Tonight’s event allows up-and-coming producers and DJs to get up on the decks alongside veterans of the trade. All you need to join in on the fun are some records, CDs and a controller. All formats of music are welcome as things get cranking right around 9 o’clock.

Bull Feeney’s acoustic open mic night continues in the Old Port this evening with lead vocalist of The Dapper Gents, Jacob McCurdy hosting this free and fun event. Tonight Jacob invites any and all musicians onto the stage to show off their talents starting at 9pm.

Take in some acoustic blues, country, jazz and folk tunes courtesy of local musician Zach Ovington this Tuesday as he plays a free show at Blue in Portland starting at 9 o’clock.
