The Fogcutters present Big Band Syndrome Volume 3 tonight at The State Theatre!

I hope you guys are fired up and ready for a festive First Friday because it’s coming atcha with ferociousness like you’ve never seen before! There are a ton of things to check out this evening, so let’s jump right in and get the party started!

Start your First Friday over at Geno’s Rock Club in Portland with their stellar event dubbed Christmas of the Damned that gets underway around 6 o’clock and featuring artwork from local artist David Cray as well as live music from Dan Connor and Sean Libby. The night continues with even more live music from the Pecan Sandies, Johnny Cremains and The Pubcrawlers starting right around 9. Rock and roll psychic Sonny Robinson will be on hand giving readings and if you arrive in an ugly Christmas sweater, you’ll receive two dollars off the cover charge, so swing through at some point this evening and get festive!

If you’re hanging out south of the border tonight check out one helluva rock n’ roll show at The Dover Brickhouse in Dover, New Hampshire where Planetoid will be joined by Supermachine, The Humanoids and Hey Zeus for a night of revelry that gets underway right around 8.

Over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland The Waiters will be serving up some quality tunes for you to ease into the freakin’ weekend with. The Waiters will be dishing out all of your favorite cover tunes starting right around 8.

Mathew’s on Free Street in Portland will be rocking all evening long with some high-energy alternative rock courtesy of Kamikaze Angel and special guests Render and Two Forty Gordy. The party starts at 8 o’clock.

Vermont-based quartet, Twiddle will be taking to the stage of Port City Music Hall in Portland tonight to play tunes whose complex composure and arrangements have been compared to that of Zappa and Coltrane. Tonight’s show gets underway right around 8 o’clock.

One of my most favorite local events happens again tonight at The State Theatre in Portland as the Fogcutters present Big Band Syndrome Volume 3. If for some reason you’re not hip to this annual event, let me give you a super brief run down: essentially this talent-laden 19-piece big band packs a super punch of horns, a rockin’ rhythm section, crazy good vocalists and so much more into a rollicking live show, but it’s not just the Fogcutters you’re going to see this evening. No, no, it’s a vertible who’s who of local music taking to the stage to perform original songs in the style of big band. This year the Fogcutters put their spin on tunes from Loretta Allen of The Other Bones, Kenya Hall, Jason Spooner, Syn the Shaman from Trails, Dilly Dilly, Sara Hallie Richardson, Jaw Gems, and Lady Lamb the Beekeeper. This is a serious must-see event so be sure to grab some tickets and make your way down to the State as the fun promptly starts at 8 o’clock tonight.

The fellas in Kilcollins bring their rock and roll party down south this evening as they gear up for a fun filled night down at The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach.  Beginning at 8:30 the boys will be playing covers of tunes that everyone knows, loves, and can shake a tail feather to.

Prog-rock trio, The 220s will be putting on one helluva show up at the Black Anchor Village Pub in Blue Hill, Maine tonight. The 220s take their influences from The Beatles to Pink Floyd to Radiohead and create something that is truly all their own, check ‘em out starting at 8:30.

Boston reggae rock funkateers Spirtual Rez will be getting the party started upstairs at Empire on Congress Street in Portland this finally Friday. The 7-piece jam band is currently touring the East Coast in support of their upcoming album Apocalypse Whenever. The dance party starts right around 9 o’clock tonight.

Put a little glide in your stride and little pep in your step this Friday down at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in the Old Port where funk band Mama’s Boomshack will be doing it up right with a free show that gets underway right around 9.

If you’re hanging out and getting after it up in Harrison tonight, swing by The Olde Mill Tavern starting at 9 where local singer-songwriter Jordan Kaulback will be doing his thing.

Central Maine pop-rock act, Tomorrow Morning will be doing it to it at Hollywood Slots in Bangor this Friday night. Check out these fellas as they play a variety of cover tunes and originals starting at 9 o’clock at this free show.

If you’re up in Hallowell this evening check out the dead ahead, high-energy, 4-piece dance-your-butt-off rock and roll band known as The Worthy Bones. These dudes are ready to get you dancing with an energetic set that gets underway right around 9 o’clock tonight over at the Kennebec Wharf.

Fridays are generally a great time to shake what your mama gave ya, so you might as well do just that tonight by getting down to Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland where DJ Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE event. LOVE will feature O’Sullivan and guests bringing you the best house, techno and disco to shake your can to. You can check out this free event starting right around 9.

North of Portland, up at Paddy Murphy’s in Bangor, The Blast Addicts will be partying with some party rockin’ and rollin’. Starting at 9:30, bust out those Party Pants and get ready to bust some moves with this super fun rock band.

Sam Shain and The Scolded Dogs will be bringing the party to the Brian Boru in Portland tonight with their original songs as well as everything from Snoop Dogg, Johnny Cash, Pariliament and more. The good times start rollin’ around 9:30.

Things get funky at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight with Shut Down Brown who promise to keep you dancing the night away with their blends of progressive-rock, funk, and soul upstairs starting at 9:30. Downstairs be sure to check out some acoustic pop gems from Jacob McCurdy who also starts playing songs right around 9:30. There’s no cover charge for either of these awesome events, so stop by and check things out!
