Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! I am overly excited about this Thursday finally arriving! This week has been completely nutso, in the best way possible, of course. I mean honestly what would I be if I weren’t a little nuts, right? I think I’d be a whole heck of a lot less entertaining, let’s face it! Anyway, it’s one of my most favorite evenings of the week during one of my most favorite times of the year, so let’s get this thing doing, shall we!?
Let’s get started in Portland where a handful of talented local acts come together for an evening of music at Mayo Street Arts. Starting at 7, folk punk band Butcher Boy celebrates the release of their new EP, Shoreless Sea, alongside special guests Speaker for the Dead and Dark Follies. This is an all ages show that is sure to entertain, so check it out if you’re hanging around town tonight.
Also happening in Portland tonight is another rollicking show downstairs at Empire Dine and Dance with twisted rockabilly madmen Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies. Tonight the fellas return to the stage for another thirsty Thursday full of high-energy tunes. This evening’s show is free and gets underway around 7:30.
Mathew’s on Free Street in Portland gears up for a high voltage rock and roll show as local act Leaves Leaves celebrates the release of their self-tilted EP. Also adding fuel to tonight’s party fire are Mouth Washington, The Rattlesnakes and Verla. Things get cranking right around 8 o’clock so check it out.
Toronto/Portland based record label Nice Friends celebrates its 3rd Annual Year End Party with a bumpin’ bash over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland this evening. Beginning at 8 o’ clock The Box Tiger, In the Audience, Yes We Kin, Dustin Saucier and many other special guests will take the stage to fill your Thursday evening with some high caliber indie rock jams. This shindig is free so get there early and don’t miss out!
If you’re looking to bust out some dance moves with a band that is certain to mellow your mind, then shuffle on down to The Big Easy in Portland for this week’s installment of Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas will jam out on everything from the Allman Brothers, Phish, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good people, and a few hula-hoops starting right around 9:30 this evening.
The remaining members of Velourosaurus have joined forces with rock n’ roll piano man Kris Rodgers to bring you an evening full of awesome and exceptionally danceable cover tunes over at Gritty’s in the Old Port this Thirstday. Starting at 9:30, Vinyl Tap plans to rock you on in to Friday with everything from The Beatles to Stevie Wonder, Huey Lewis and more.
Portland jazz-funk fusion act Groove Ruckus takes to the stage over at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this evening. You can check out this talented group of musicians bring their own flavor of sound to life starting at 10.
