Strike A Chord with the Portland Music Foundation today at The Asylum

Alright! The weekend rolls on and this Saturday means business. So suit up in those Party Pants and get ready to get on down to the sweet, lively sounds of Saturday night!

I will be up and at ‘em early this Saturday morning to help get things ready for Portland Music Foundation’s Strike a Chord Event. The PMF is a non-profit created to help support and promote Maine’s thriving music community and today we’re putting on an interactive music exhibit for families, aspiring musicians, and artists at The Asylum in Portland. Starting at noon there’ll be an instrument petting zoo downstairs at the venue as well as a screen-printing workshop, a local music listening station, goods and services from a ton of local music shops, a Rock n’ Roll Photo Booth, an open mic that will be recorded and turned into a compilation CD, local music karaoke and much, much more. It’s free, all ages, and should be a great way to spend your Saturday afternoon, so stop on by and have some fun.

My fellow Portland Music Foundation member and head honcho of Eternal Otter Records, William Ethridge, will be celebrating his birthday with some tantalizing tunes down at The Oak & The Ax in Biddeford this evening. Tonight get ready to dance and make merry with Little Timmy Findlen and his Aroostook Hillbillies and O’Death starting right around 8 o’clock.

No doubt about it that the dance floor of The Big Easy in Portland is going to be burning up as Sly-Chi plans on kicking things up a notch with a triple threat of good times. Tonight the band will be playing three sets: smooth jazz, straight up funk and then a non-stop dance party featuring local hip-hop emcee eyenine. This is gonna be a doozy, so get there early and stay there late as things get cranking right around 8 o’clock.

Thee Icepicks help you melt those winter blues away with their 5th Annual Bottom-Of-The-East Tiki Party. Tonight anticipate lots of surf rock as the band heats things up alongside The Vivisectors and Zombie Beach. Tonight’s rock and roll show gets started at 8pm over at Bayside Bowl in Portland.

A night of sketch comedy, rock, and eletrco pop takes over the stage of Geno’s in Portland tonight as the comedy troupe Her Majesty’s Cabaret teams up with electro pop-rock act A Severe Joy and straight up rock n’ rollers  Chamberlain for full night of entertainment. With a little something for everybody, be sure to check out this show as things get underway right around 9.

More in the way of funk, hip-hop and, even some reggae will be taking center stage upstairs at Empire Dine and Dance on Congress Street in Portland this evening. Tonight Eight Feel Tall, The Joint Chiefs and All Good Feel Good Collective join forces for an evening of all out jams. Things get started right around 9, so swing on by and check it out.

Local rockers Worried Well will be opening things up for tonight’s 90s throwback show at The Asylum in Portland as the Gin Blossoms take the stage. DC electro-pop act Crash Boom Bang will also be on hand to get the party started right around 9.

If you’re south of Portland this evening, swing by The Stone Church in Newmarket, NH tonight as Paranoid Social Club gears up for a high-energy rock n’ roll show. Local songstress Anna Lombard will kick things off with some soulful jams. The party starts at 8:30.

And up north, in Bar Harbor, a couple of sweet indie rock acts will be doing their thing at the Lompoc Café this evening. Tonight be sure to catch Forget, Forget and Temperature of the Sun as they share the stage starting at 8.
