Sidecar Radio says goodbye with a bombastic bash at The Big Easy
I find that each and every Monday I start my day with a song by the 60s group, The Easybeats, stuck in my head called Friday On My Mind. I then continuously sing that jam right on up until Friday arrives because it’s an absolutely fantastic pop song with so much truth. This weekend is pretty much the kick off to an incredible week of music, so get those Party Pants cleaned and pressed, take your gummy vitamins and make sure you’re getting plenty of Pop Tarts to fuel your party prowess. All right, let’s Friday!
Let’s start up in the Hallowell area this fine Friday evening with a Happy Hour show over at The Easy Street Lounge on Front Street. Tonight Sam Shain will be kicking off your weekend with a solo acoustic performance that’ll cover everything from Sublime to T-Pain, Johnny Cash, Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed and more as well as some original jams squeezed in. Things get underway around 5 o’clock.
Brooklyn-based band/art collective MEN, led by Le Tigre’s JD Samson, will take the stage at SPACE Gallery in Portland tonight for a performance driven by radical dance jams. This should be a high-energy event for you to shake your tail feather to this evening, so check it out starting at 8pm. Local act Contrapposto will also be playing and there’ll be bumpin’ DJ sets from Che Ros and mosart 212.
It’s time for another Jazz Friday over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland tonight. Some very talented cats in the form of LQH (Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines) will be bringing their melting pot of sound that touches on everything from soul to jazz to funk to rock over to The Dogfish starting at 8 o’clock tonight.
It’s been a while since Primo Cubano have played a show in Portland, so if you’re in need of some classic Cuban music to boogie down to, then get your can over to One Longfellow Square in Portland to dance the night away. Primo Cubano are ready to deliver tunes to make you shake and sweat starting at 8 o’clock.
After ten years of thoroughly bringing the thunder, local rock act Sidecar Radio is saying goodbye. These guys have been doing their thing for a decade and within that time played some humungous and awesome shows. Tonight they say farewell to their friends/fans with one last ruckus of a rock show down at The Big Easy in Portland. The fellas will be joined by NY’s Planeside for this evening’s bombastic bash that gets underway right around 9 o’clock.
A delectable evening of indie rock will be destroying the stage upstairs at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland this evening. Local act Worried Well celebrates the release of their latest single and video with a bit of a party that will also include performances from Dustin Saucier as well as The Deliberates. The show starts right around 9 o’clock.
If you’re looking to check out a little Drum & Bass action this evening then mosey on down to Flask Lounge in Portland where The Digital Mercenaries will be delivering sounds that are sure to make you shake your hips all night long. Tonight’s event starts at 9 o’clock and will feature DJ sets from The Brothers Grime, Marshall Law, Control Freak and Outta Order, and as always it’s free, so check it out.
A full night of Americana and folk tunes will be blasting through Bayside Bowl in Portland this evening as Gunther Brown takes the stage alongside The Mutineers for night of revelry. What could be better than beer, bowling and bearded men singing awesome tunes? Things get underway right around 9 o’clock.
If you’re looking to be your own rock star this evening by belting out some jams then look no further than Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland where DJ Ponyfarm will be doing a special Friday night edition of karaoke. Things get crankin’ around 9 and it’s free!
Feeling a little nostalgic for bands such as Sublime, Blink 182 and even say Chumbawumba? Then head on over to RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland where 90s cover band Hello Newman will be getting the party started right around 10.
The avant-folk duo known as Arborea will be holding a fundraiser for their new record this evening in the form of a show down at the lovely Oak and The Ax in Biddeford. Beginning at 8pm, you can check out sets not only from Arborea but also local singer-songwriter Lisa/Liza as well as Methuin Muir.
If you’re south of the border this evening, check out the funktastic show that will be taking place at the Thirsty Moose Tap House in Portsmouth, NH where Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famer Bernie Worrell will be playing tonight. Worrell not only played with the legendary Parliament/Funkadelic, but also jammed with The Talking Heads. Tonight he and his band rage out alongside opening act The Watkinsonics for an evening chock full of funk, soul, R&B and fun. The party starts promptly at 7 o’clock.
