I can sum up the events of last evening in one word: ouch. Obviously this pain was brought on by my own doing, but holy Hannah, do I know how to Friday! I won’t let the fact that I am suffering from epic wet brain dampen my Saturday evening, so I’m going to blow dry the booze outta my Party Pants and hike ‘em up once again to properly keep on dancin’ to the rock and roll on Saturday night. Let’s do this.
The 19th Annual Maine Brewer’s Festival gets underway at the Portland Expo today with a trio of awesome local acts providing the soundtrack to your beer tasting. Starting at 1pm and rolling on into the evening session of beer tasting, you can check out sets from The Mallett Brothers Band, Zach Jones and Dirigo. That’s pretty much a little bit of every thing for every one – beer, country, folk, R&B, soul, rock and roll – how can you go wrong? I believe tickets are still available so scoop ‘em up while you can! 1pm
If you’re interested in a little Saturday night pre-gam action, why not check out Portland’s own bluesman, Lex Jones as he plays Mama’s Crowbar on Munjoy Hill in Portland this afternoon? Lex will be picking a variety of blues classics on his guitar (geeeetar) this afternoon beginning at 4 o’clock. It’s free and fun, so if you’re in the area, stop by and check Lex out.
Northern Maine’s acoustic guitar slinger Travis Cyr visits Portland this evening for an intimate performance at Blue on Congress Street. Starting at 6, Travis will play 15 or so of his best tunes, stomp his feet, sweat a bit and break some strings – all in all it sounds like a mighty good time, so stop by and check him out.
The Big Easy’s Saturday Night Soul, Jazz and Blues Series gets funky this evening as Mama’s Boomshack takes the stage for a full night of funkified soul music. The band has been hard at work in their underground funk bunker perfecting new original songs and lots of old favorites for tonight’s show so check ‘em out starting at 8:30.
A big ol’ jungle-themed dance party is going down at Flask Lounge in Portland tonight where Rubix, Professor Trouble vs. Konfuzion, and G-Force will be spinning the best underground dance tunes for you to shake a tail feather to. Things get cranking right around 9 and it’s free, so check it out.
Indie roots rockers, Bronze Radio Return take the stage of Empire Dine and Dance in Portland this evening to bring their lush harmonies and soulful vocals mixed with blues and modern guitar tones to life starting at 9 o’clock.
DJ Jazzy Chas and the Del Rossi Posse is bringing the party to The Liberal Cup in Hallowell this evening. Beginning at 9 o’clock you can enjoy some funky soul, jazz, hip-hop and pop covers from this group of party people all for no cover charge. So if you’re north of Portland, swing on by and check ‘em out.
The Running Gags will be bringing their party rockin’ jams north of Portland this evening as they kick things into high gear at Mainely Brews in Waterville. The fellas are primed and ready to rock some socks off starting at 9 o’clock tonight.
WBOR presents their Fall Concert up at Bowdoin College in Brunswick tonight with a headlining performance from electronic rock-fused hip-hop act RJD2 alongside Shlohmo and Portland’s own Forget, Forget. The party starts at 10 o’clock.
