Awww yeah! It is FINALLY Friday! I am absolutely ready to get DOWN tonight and I hope you all are too. This entire week has been chock full of rockin’, rollin’, and wholeheartedly doin’ it to it, so if you’re looking to keep the ball rollin’, here are some fantastic live shows to check out this evening. Happiest of weekends, my babies!
The 49th Annual Yarmouth Clam Festival kicks off today and as always, this year’s festivities include some awesome Maine music. Get your Friday evening started with a live performance from country-rockers The McCarthys as they take to the stage in front of Memorial Green right around 4:30. The fellas will be serving up lively originals and cover tunes while you wait for the parade to begin this evening.
Enjoy some Happy Hour musical merriment over at Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland this Friday as they welcome back roots rocker Travis James Humphrey. Travis will be performing a solo acoustic set to help you get your Friday off on the right foot. This free event gets underway at 5, so stop in, grab some dinner and enjoy some live music before you hit the town tonight.
Bunker Brewing Company on Anderson Street in Portland continues moving forward with its summer concert series with an awesome evening of quality indie rock and folk starting right around 6 o’clock tonight. Check out sets of songs and stories courtesy of Burlington acts Alpenglow and Paper Castles alongside locals If & It.
Another great Nashville-style Songwriters in the Round event will be taking place over at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this Friday evening. Tonight three terrific songwriters will take to the stage for a set of songs and stories that gets underway right around 6. This free show will feature original music from local artists Shanna Underwood, Kirk Underwood, and Greg Bjork, who’ll actually be playing later in the evening with his band Welterweight.
Ellsworth’s Waterfront Concert Series continues tonight with a free, all ages show out at Union River Harbor Park with Stesha Cano. Starting at 6 o’clock enjoy some of Stesha’s original blues and jazz as she and her band bring some fun time tunes to the waterfront tonight.
Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and founder of Lilith Fair, Sara McLachlan will be live on the Bangor Waterfront tonight as she and her band bring many of her hit songs to life starting right around 6pm.
Liquid m2 Juice Café & Cocktail Bar on Fore Street in the Old Port will be hosting the Eric Winkler Quartet for a fun Friday night of music and specialty cocktails. Beginning at 7, enjoy some great jazz, Cuban and Brazilian music at this free event.
Get your Friday evening started with some acoustic light rock down at Andy’s Old Port Pub in Portland as local artist Jeff Cusack plays a free set of songs starting at 7 o’clock.
Get funky with The Blues Mafia as they heat things up out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street this Friday evening. Starting at 7 take in a free show chock full of the blues and more with this high-energy, local quintet.
The John Clavette Band will be raging out at The Porthole on Commercial Street this Friday where you can catch them alongside NH act, The Fearless One’s for a night chock full of rock n’ roll jams. This free party gets grooving right around 7 o’clock, so be sure to check it out!
Take in some psychedelic gutter blues courtesy of Dixon Pendejo Trash at the Meg Perry Center in downtown Portland. Starting at 7 you can check out free sets from the act alongside special guests Jessica Labus and many more talented singer-songwriters.
San Fran rockers, The Tubes — you know, the dudes behind the song “White Punks On Dope” — will be live on the stage of The Asylum in Portland tonight. This prog-rock theatrical extravaganza begins at 8 o’clock.

The State-Line Big Band, led by area trumpeter and composer, Chris Klaxton, will be making some marvelous noise at the Dance Hall in Kittery this finally Friday. From Ellington to Mingus, original compositions and more this seacoast big band is certain to entertain die-hard jazz lovers and fans of bebop alike. The party starts at 8 o’clock!
LQH, which features local players Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines, will be bringing their melting pot of sound that spans everything from soul and jazz to funk and rock to the stage of the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland tonight for a free show that gets kickin’ right around 8 o’clock.
Renowned American country music and bluegrass performer, Kathy Mattea will be performing live at the Centre Theatre up in Dover-Foxcroft this Friday evening. Mattea, who often brings folk, Celtic and traditional country sounds to her music, is set to take the stage right around 8 o’clock.
The Sean Chambers Band returns to Maine for a weekend full of blues at The Brickhouse in Scarborough in celebration of the band’s latest release, The Rock House Sessions. The party continues at the Yarmouth Clam Festival this Friday evening as local act Gunther Brown hits the stage in in the NYA tent right around 8:15pm with a plethora of special guests from such notable acts as Dark Hollow Bottling Company, Mister Moon and more to bring their finely crafted Americana folk rock tunes to life. This event is free, fun, all ages and guaranteed to be a great way to kick start your weekend!
Funk-rock extraordinaires Rustic Overtones will be playing at a free show up in Boothbay Harbor tonight. Don’t miss your chance to party with one of Maine’s most beloved live acts as they prepare to blow the doors down at the Mine Oyster tonight. Again this show is free, so get there early as things kick into gear right around 9 o’clock.
Up at Ramona’s in Bucksport get ready to party down with The Blast Addicts as they rip through some straight up rock n’ roll tunes for your finally Friday night. Starting at 9, bust out some of your best moves to this super fun local act at this free show.
Port City Music Hall in Portland welcomes back Boston-based rock act Richard James & The Name Changers to the stage tonight. The piano-driven band specifies their genre as “whiskey-infused roots rock and roll.” They’ll be getting after it alongside Pink Talking Phish, which is an act that fuses the music of Pink Floyd, The Talking Heads and Phish together for one big, funky sound. The party starts at 9 o’clock tonight, so check it out if you’re feeling funky this Friday.
If you’re looking to get down to a little Drum & Bass action this evening, mosey over to Flask Lounge in Portland where The Digital Mercenaries will be delivering sounds that are sure to make you shake your hips all night long.
