Rock n’ roll with Kris Rodgers and The Sleepwalkers at Geno’s


Did anyone else get their butt completely handed to them this week? Holy Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus, this truly felt like the week that had no end, but that feeling is fleeting as the weekend finally arrives with Friday night packing some serious thunder.

If you find yourself hanging out in the Southport area this finally Friday then be sure to take in some of the best roots, rock, an country music around at Tug’s Pub where Cattle Call will be playing some songs starting right around 5:30. Tonight’s show is absolutely free, so grab some pals and have some serious fun.

Another Nashville-style Songwriters in the Round event will be happening at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this Friday evening. Tonight they welcome three terrific songwriters to the circle for a set of tunes and tales that’ll get underway right around 6. Anticipate great songs and stories from local music-makers, Shanna Underwood, Scott Girouard and Bruce Hilton

Local musician James Wholey will be playing the blues The Local Buzz in Cape Elizabeth tonight. Starting right around 7 you can check out a set of acoustic driven blues tunes at this free and fun show that is certain to be a great way to wind down your working week.

American singer-songwriter and folk musician Ellis Paul will be performing live at the Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center in Gardiner this evening. Paul performs his well-known brand of folk-pop style songs starting at 7:30.

Guthrie’s in Lewiston will be jumping tonight as they welcome Tommy O’Connell & The Juke Joint Devils to play some tunes tonight. Starting at 8, check out some old time, hard driving and swinging blues as the band kicks out the jams all night long.

Portland back porch bluegrass band, Tricky Britches will be teaming up with Chicken Wire for an evening show at Acoustic Artisans on Congress Street in Portland. The two acts will be singing songs and plucking stringed things starting right around 8.

Get your good times rolling over at RJ’s Pub in South Portland with Captain Ray and the Castaways as this local act keeps your moving and shaking all night long with some free Friday night rock and roll. Tonight’s dance party gets underway right around 8.

Check out Jazz Friday at the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland with the very talented cats of LQH (Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines) as they bring their melting pot of sound — everything from soul to jazz to funk to rock over to The Dogfish starting at 8 tonight.


If you’re kicking back and hanging out in Saco this finally Friday, get down to the Kerrymen Pub as southern Maine blues rockers The J.C.W. Experiment start dishing out good times and good tunes right around 8.

Between Dead Stations will be doing it up at a free show at Hollywood Slots in Bangor tonight. Starting at 9 check out this modern blues duo featuring the songwriting, gritty vocals and searing guitars of Jake Irish, paired with the popping back beat of Mike E. Styx on drums and percussion.

Geno’s Rock Club in Portland will be hopping with some good times and good tunes starting at 9 this Friday evening as they welcome Portland’s own piano-driven rock n’ roll act Kris Rodgers & The Dirty Gems to the stage alongside Wisconsin pop rockers The Sleepwalkers.

Then head down to Port City Music Hall in Portland to check out Phish tribute band, Pardon Me, Doug as they play all of your favorite Phish jams to keep you noodling all night long on the dance floor. If you’re looking to shake your moneymaker to some house music then head out to Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland tonight for another edition of Friction Friday. Starting at 9 drum & bass extraordinaires Moses, APG, Turd Furgeson (yup), and Daze Inn will be on hand providing you with ample jams to break it on down to. Tonight’s dance party is absolutely free so don’t miss this chance to cause a ruckus out on the dance floor.

The fellas of The Ghost of Paul Revere will be bringing their brand of hollerin’ folk on up to Boothbay Harbor tonight for a show at Mine Oyster. Starting right around 9 you can check these foot stompin’, whiskey drinkin’ dudes as they do their thing on stage with some acoustic instruments, a harmonica, and a ton of sweet, sweet harmonies. If you’re down in the Seacoast area tonight, be sure to check out a great show happening at The Press Room in Portsmouth as Girls, Guns & Glory deliver some of their solid rockin’ country tunes on stage this evening. Boston indie folk-rocker Sarah Borges will kick things off with a set of songs right around 9 tonight.

The Asylum in Portland welcomes Nashville’s Parmalee to the stage this Friday evening. These fellas grew up on roots and bluegrass and incorporate a lot of those influences into their live country rock sound. Things get underway at 9 with an opening set from Massachusetts native Jillian Cardarelli


If you find yourself down in Dover Rock City (you know, Dover, New Hampshire) be sure to check out a great line up of original rock acts as they slam out some songs live on the stage of the Brickhouse this Friday. Starting at 9 take in some loud and awesome sets from 4 x 4 Barracuda, Broggi Field, Fight Me Up Johnny and Order of Thieves


It’s getting to be about that time where we all just want to be out on a deck some where, sipping a cold beer, and listening to some live tunes. Why not do exactly that tonight by listening to alt-rock trio Walkenhorse down at The Pier Patio Pub in Old Orchard? The fellas will be bringing the Friday night thunder to The Pier starting at 9.


If you find yourself up in the Hallowell area this evening be sure to stop by Easy Street Lounge as The Whitefields start rocking right around 9 o’clock. Best described as a folk, funk and rock venture, this band is known for its strong vocal harmonies. Expect a wide range of styles and fun as things get underway tonight.


Local musician Barry Arvin Young will be playing a variety of easy listening classics fem the 70s to today that should please even the most discerning of ears up at Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples. Tonight’s free show gets underway at 9:30, so swing through if you’re hanging around the area this Friday.

Kilcollins brings their rock and roll party upstairs to Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port for a fun show on this finally Friday. Starting at 9:30 the boys will be playing covers of songs that everyone knows, loves, and can shake a tail feather to, as well as some catchy original jams. There’s never ever a cover charge so get your freak on if you’re downtown tonight.


The duo of good ol’ boys, North of Nashville, make their way to Mainely Brews in Waterville for some good times and good tunes. Anticipate lots and lots of foot stomping and singalongs from these country lovin’ fellas as things get going right around 9:30.

With non-arctic temperatures being a thing of the past, it’s time to warm up and welcome summer with some reggae courtesy of local act Royal Hammer as they kick things off tonight at the Empire in Portland right around 9:30. Royal Hammer will set the stage for dancehall reggae artists and headliners Sleepy Wonder & the Geometric Echoes, which features members of Thievery Corporation.
