What up, party people?! I am so unbelievably ready to get this weekend started! We’ve only got one last, final push and then we’re home free to the freakin’ weekend – and you better believe that I’m gonna have me some fun! Kick things off with a big bang as there’s a ton, A TON – I’m not even kidding, there are so many shows going on tonight I almost passed out a couple of times writing this blog – so get out there and shake a tail feather as it’s high time we do it to it this Friday evening! Here we go!
Maybe you’re one of those lucky souls on vacation this week, if that happens to be the case why not kick your Friday into high gear with some free music out on The Brunswick patio in Old Orchard Beach with the fellas of Kilcollins? These guys will be forming as trio this afternoon, right around 1 o’clock, to play some super fun pop-rock originals as well as some tried-and-true covers, so swing through this afternoon if you’re kicking it in the OOB sunshine!
A big ol’ night of rock n’ roll with be happening up in Lewiston this finally Friday as Sea40 presents Sea Bash, a party that boasts tons of live music starting right around 5 o’clock, with performances from Skosh, Killer of Kings, Dumbumb and special reunion set from Blue Khakis.
Kaleidoscope, Rumford’s monthly celebration of the arts, will feature an all high school version of the event featuring artists, performers, their supporters, family, friends, and neighbors, gathering for a co-created evening of art that’s made right in front of your eyes by some talented local kiddos. Tonight Unorganized Hancock, a pop duo from Western Maine, will take to the stage alongside special guests Andy Broomhall, Zach Hodges, and Anna Dunbar, as visual artists create during their musical performances. Tonight’s free event will be held at the Mystic Theater in Rumford gets underway at 6pm. There will be drinks, and snacks available for purchase.
If you’re hitting the downtown Portland area early this evening be sure to make a stop into Blue on Congress Street with their fiery blues-folk act Muddy Ruckus will be performing beginning right around 6. Stop in and enjoy some rhythmic guitar, slamming upright bass and haunting vocal harmonies that’ll leave you stomping your feet and smiling from ear to ear.
The Kave in Bucksports invites punks of all ages to check out the incredible, high-energy show they’ve got lined up for tonight that is guaranteed to rattle your skull and make you fist pump into the air. Starting at 6 check out sets from Cruel Hand, Swamps, Caught in a Crowd, Street Sweeper and Free to Think. Again, this is an all ages event that starts early-ish so get ready for some good mosh pitting and check it out.
4Points BBQ & Blues House in Winterport will be serving up heaping helpings of both as they welcome blues act the Derrick Semler Band to the stage for a night of songs tonight. This free show gets crankin’ right around 6 o’clock, so check it out if you’re up that way this Friday evening.
Bunker Brewing Company in Portland will be host to another awesome evening of live, local music starting at 6 o’clock this finally Friday. Enjoy some locally brewed beverages while checking out some psychedelic rock n’ roll from Jeff Beam and his band alongside eclectic, talented jazz/funk keyboardist, Kafari and local psych/garage/surf rockers, Boyfriends.
The Shakes, a 7-piece funk, rock and reggae collective from Hallowell that features some of the scene’s most fun and funky players will be setting sail upon the high seas of Boothbay Harbor this Friday evening for a Funk Cruise starting at 6. The party boat leaves Wharf Street for three hours of furious entertainment, so if you’re up that way tonight, climb aboard and have some fun!
Spend this Friday night jamming out with A Band Beyond Description on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company as this Dead tribute band gets the good times rollin’ right around 6 at tonight’s free show.
Katalyst and Baxter Brewing Company have teamed up with the State Theatre in Portland for the second installment of the State of the State, which is an epic night of live, local music celebrating all that Maine has to offer with performances from a plethora of talented regional acts including The Mallett Brothers Band, Spose, The Wrecking, The Other Bones, Model Airplane, and The Kenya Hall Band. Running the full gamut with alt-country, pop-rock, hip-hop, straight up funk, electro-pop and more, the State of the State is a well-rounded representation of what’s happening across our little seaside state in regards to creativity and talent. Hosted by Kyle Poissonnier of Katalyst alongside the one and only – the man, the myth, the legend, Ken Bell, and Baxter Brewing Company’s own awesome brew-master, Luke Livingston, tonight’s event is a celebration of not only the music here in Maine, but also the local businesses that join forces to help these artists thrive. Another exciting addition to tonight’s once-a-year party is the Maine Youth Rock Orchestra, a string-orchestra of some badass kiddos aged 12-18, who will be taking to the stage with each act to perform arrangements of their original songs. Comedian Nick Lavallee will also be on hand to keep you laughing between sets. Tonight’s event is all ages and gets underway right around 7 o’clock, so don’t miss out on this phenomenal show featuring a ton of locally-based talent.
The lovely and talented Monique Barrett will be performing a free show at b.good on Exchange Street in Portland this Friday evening. Starting at 7 you can enjoy some delicious food and terrific live music as Monique sets up shop with her acoustic guitar and plays her own unique soulful folk tunes right on through the 9 o’clock hour.
There are lots of stories about the birth of jazz and the beginning of rock n’ roll, but hip-hop has founding fathers, one of them is DJ Grandmaster Flash and he will be live, on stage at The Asylum in Portland tonight. All you hip hop heads get ready to have your mind blown by the master himself alongside special guests Mike Be and Jay Caron of Ock Cousteau and the one and only El Shupacabra on the decks. Things pop off right around 8 o’clock tonight, so don’t say I didn’t warn ya!
A rollicking good time breezes on through One Longfellow Square in Portland tonight as Massachusetts-based progressive string band Hot Day At The Zoo gets ready to make concert goers stomp their feet with a show that is guaranteed to please. Brooklyn steamboat soul/roots revival act Roosevelt Dime will also be on hand to properly get the party started as things get shaking right around 8pm.
Local artist Lisa Redfern will be performing some jazz standards off her 8th studio release titled Once in a While at Frontier in Brunswick this Friday. Tonight’s show gets underway at 8 and will feature accompaniment by Jesse Feinberg on piano, Hal Ahlers on drums, Paul Rice on bass, and Fred Cantu on horns.
Country artist JP Harris will be joined by his band The Tough Choices to play originals that he does not categorize as either roots, Americana or folk, but rather the foundations of country and western music that has influenced many generations of songwriters at tonight’s show down at Mayo Street Arts in Portland. CT country rockers and rollers The Can Kickers will also be on hand to open this evening’s event, which gets started right around 8 o’clock show.
Feral Academy will be doing their thing live at the Dogfish Bar & Grill on Free Street in Portland this evening as they combine their skilled musicianship with tight, robust vocals for a free night of tuneage that gets underway right around 8 o’clock this Friday.
Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland will be geared up for some Friday night fun starting at 8 as they welcome Gina Sobel and the Mighty Fine to their abode for some jazzed up rock n’ roll. This show is free and all ages, so swing through if you’re hanging in the Old Port tonight.

Sam Shain and The Scolded Dogs will be bringing the party up to Augusta tonight for a free show at Rooster’s that’ll feature their mix of original songs and covers that include everything from Snoop Dogg, Johnny Cash, Parliament and more. The good times start rollin’ around 8.

Starting at 8:30 you can check out some tasty eats and awesome tunes down at The Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook where Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies will be taking over with their own brand of twisted Americana/rockabilly.
The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach presents another Friday night with dance pop cover act Tickle as the fellas prepare to bring the house dance with a super dance party mix of the best of today’s music mixed in with some retro funk starting right around 8:30.
Upright bassist Kip Demos will be hosting an evening of improvisational jazz featuring Eric Hofbauer on guitar, Ben Dick handling percussion, and Forbes Graham on the trumpet for a free evening of good times and good tunes up at Guthrie’s in Lewiston. Kips presentation of high quality jazz gets underway at 8:30.
Tailgate Bar & Grill in Gray is gearing up for a Friday night full of alternative rock covers as well as original songs from local act Zealous Bellus. The fellas are ready to kick things into a full tilt rage for this free show starting right around 9.
