What is up, Wednesday!? We are truly doing it to it this week as we get ready to hurdle the hump once again. We’ve totally got this and luckily there are tons of awesome mid-week parties to check out, so let’s get down to it, shall we?
Start things off tonight with some blues standards over at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland as Jennifer Porter sings the songs of Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald and more starting right around 6 o’clock.
Baxter Brewing Company celebrates another year of great canned beer with a Canniversary Party at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in Portland. Tonight they’ll be celebrating with the musical sounds of folk duo The Squid Jiggers as they gear up for an epic Wednesday night party. It’s free and there’s even rumor of some cool Baxter Brewing swag to be given away to some lucky attendees so check it out starting at 7pm tonight.
Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland welcomes young singer songwriter, Isaiah Bennett to the stage this evening with a set that will showcase his unqiue blend of acoustic pop and funk. Things get underway right around 7:30, so stop on by and check it out if you’re in the area this evening.
The soulful country singer-songwriter, Tift Merritt graces the stage of One Longfellow Square in Portland tonight. With comparisons to Dusty Springfield and Bobbie Gentry, Merritt is sure to offer up some sweet sounds for your Wednesday evening soundtrack. Special guest The David Wax Museum starts things off around 8 o’clock.
The talent-laden ruckus known as Rap Night descends upon The Big Easy in Portland tonight. Every Hump Day local emcees and beat makers Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra join forces to host their epic weekly party featuring sme of the biggest and brightest rappers around. Things get fresh starting at 9 o’clock, so head downtown and check it out.
I am super pumped about this week’s Clash of the Titans match up as two of my all-time favorite bands go head to head this evening upstairs at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland. String-laden pop dukes it out against glammy rock as the Electric Light Orchestra takes on T. Rex tonight. I will say that I might be rooting extra hard for T. Rex as I have the honor of singing some crazy harmonies and banging bongos for the team. Anyway, it should be a ton of fun so stop on by and check it out as the party gets underway right around 9 tonight.
Down at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland soulful Americana meets R&B with a little bit of alternative country as Kwesi Kankam takes to the stage for a set tonight. The Pennsylvania artist will be starting things off right around 10.
