Mid-week party report

By: Holly Nunan

Here we are, making it half way through another fun-filled week and I don’t know about you guys, but I am totally ready to hurdle the hump and make way for the freakin’ weekend. If you’re looking to celebrate the half way mark then here are some places to do so this Wednesday evening!

Country rocker Justin Townes Earle returns to Portland tonight with a show at Port City Music Hall. Justin Earle definitely comes from good stock as his father is the legendary sing/songwriter Steve Earle, but the fella knows how to make a name for himself through his own brand of songwriting.  Check Earle and opener Tift Merritt out starting at 8 o’clock.

In case you were unaware it’s Maine Beer Week and tonight Baxter Brewing Company joins in the fun with some brews and tunes over at Bull Feeney’s in Portland.  Tonight the Squid Jiggers will take the stage for some folk music infused with barley, sugar, yeast and hops for an event that will also feature 19 draft lines and 11 local craft brews!  It’s free and sure to be a lot of fun, so check it out starting at 8pm.

Ben Kilcollins makes his way to RiRa in Portland tonight for some acoustic jam action.  Kilcollins is a skilled singer/songwriter that you should definitely check out if you’re hanging around the Old Port this evening.  His set gets underway right around 8:30.

The Wednesday night staple that is Rap Night takes place over at The Big Easy in Portland where hosts Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra are proud to present the No Politics Tour featuring Has-Lo, PremRock and DJ Halo.  Kicking the grooves off right tonight will be local hip-hop heavy weights Slop, Jay Caron, Mike Be, Flowpez and Kristina Kentigian.  Also always the evening will close out with an open mic, so get down and check it out starting at 9 o’clock.

The Clash of the Titans continues upstairs at Empire Dine and Dance with Portland tonight where tons of awkward, shoe gazing dancing will take place as two groups of local musicians team up to represent both Grizzly Bear and LCD Soundsystem to see who shall be crowned champion of this week’s battle. As usual, things get crankin’ right around 9pm.
