Holy flip it is finally, finally, FINALLY Friday! I don’t know what in the heck happened, but this week totally handed me my bum-bum. Seriously. It was an awesome week full of doing it to it, rocking and rolling, and other assorted bad arse things, but I am so ready to hike up my party pants, kick up my heels, and get on down into the freakin’ weekend, babies! I’m pretty sure a couple of y’all are with me so let’s throw this motha into high gear and slam it on into Friday night! UHHH. (All of this was highly inappropriate, so you can punch me in the throat when you see me out and about later.) Cool, let’s do this thing!
Folk rock trio Papadello will be pleasing earholes this evening as they play a free show starting at 7 o’clock over at Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland. These guys are super nice and extremely talented so if you’re into some good tunes and good times, then check ‘em out.
If you’re in the Westbrook area tonight and looking for good eats and tasty, tuneful treats, then get yourself over to The Frog & Turtle where Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies will be taking over with their own brand of twisted Americana/rockabilly. Things get crankin’ right around 8 o’clock.
Super cool party happening over at Geno’s Rock Club in Portland tonight as the Coast City Comicon throws down with a huge comic/cosplay costume party featuring The Sidescrollers, Covered in Bees and Math The Band. Nerds rejoice and rock out starting at 9 o’clock.
Andi Fawcett and Doubting Gravity brought the thunder to this week’s Cover to Cover as they channeled No Doubt and flawlessly performed Tragic Kingdom from front to back, but tonight they take the stage once again at The Big Easy to celebrate the release of their own self-titled album alongside some of their pals. Get ready to pop rock the night aways as Doubting Gravity parties with Stunt Double Sam and Anna & The Diggs for what should be a show of epic proportions. Check it out and show some love starting at 9 o’clock.
A big ol’ rock n’ roll party is happening at The Asylum in Portland tonight as local heavy hitters Loki celebrate the release of the new album Audio Alchemy. Special guests The Hollow Glow will also be kickin’ it to party with the fellas as well as Jackass’ Bam Margera. Yes, you can party with Bam tonight if you wish, but no word if his mom and dad will be there, being relentlessly tortured by absolutely absurd pranks from their son. Things get start around 8 tonight.
I’m going to try and take in a little bit of everything around town tonight, but my definite destination point will be Bayside Bowl in Portland to enjoy my all-time favorite rockabilly band King Memphis as they get the joint jumpin’ starting at 9 o’clock.
There are couple places around Portland to dance it out if you’re in need of shaking what your momma gave ya this evening starting with the Electro Shock show over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge where the hardest hitting electronic dance music will be bumpin’ all night long. Starting at 9 you can check out sets from PAN1K, DJ RahJahh Omega, Maine Event and Dr. Wallstreet.
Flask Lounge in Portland hosts another edition of Foundation Friday tonight. Every second Friday of the month you can join the peeps at Flask for a free dance party featuring the finest underground dance music and slick video mixes around. For this month’s edition, DJ Richard Sin will be on hand to keep things going strong alongside resident DJ Mr. Dereloid and visual artist The Psychologist. Things get fresh right around 9. I really enjoy the free dance nights Flask puts on and I recently went and checked out some Drum & Bass with my pal, Kurt Baker. I’ll tell you that as a rock n’ roll chick I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed myself. So what I’m trying to say is that with everything in the music scene, not just this evening’s Foundation Friday event, but everything, you gotta at least get out there and try it, experience it, because you never know, you might actually like it.
If you find yourself down south this evening, don’t snooze on the awesome show that is taking place at the cozy and quaint Oak and The Ax on Main Street in Biddeford. Starting at 8pm you can check out some indie rock courtesy of Verla, Rural Ghosts and Last Sip.
Even further south this evening down in Dover Rock City, a super-sized, thunderous rock show rolls through The Dover Brickhouse as Supermachine teams up with Broggi Field and Novus Dae for a night of adrenaline fueled fun. Things get crankin’ at The Brickhouse beginning at 9pm.
