Newz by The Nunz

Led for your head at The Asylum in Portland tonight

By: Holly Nunan

Do not judge me.  I have become one with my sweat pants after yesterday’s monumental feast.  I think right now might be the time for myself and these sweat pants to part ways.  (No worries, I will not continue this blog pantless.)  I wanted to give those of you out there with the same sweat pants dilemma some courage to swap out the sweats for the highly coveted Party Pants as this Friday kicks into high gear. It’s anything but black although you might black out from the amount of excitement that tonight brings, but I think if you lay off the turkey, hang up the sweat pants and maybe only have two slices of pumpkin pie rather than three, you too can rage some Party Pants and work off some of that gobble by busting a move tonight.  There’s lots and lots to check out around Portland and beyond and since I spent the majority of yesterday in a pretty tripped out food coma, my brain is functioning at peak levels today and I’m truly ready to bring you this evening’s Newz. Check it!

Start your Friday evening off right with some soul courtesy of The ToneKings. Papa Phil Divinsky shows us all where offspring Lyle got all that talent from by fronting The ToneKings on stage tonight over at The Frog & Turtle in downtown Westbrook. The fun starts right around 8:30.

Local rockers Harbor celebrate the release of their new album with a crazy show over at Geno’s in Portland.  Tonight you can check out sets not only from Harbor, but Too Late The Hero, Cold Words, Firstborn and Monarch as well. The foundation starts shakin’ right around 9 tonight.

If you’re looking to bust a move to some underground electronic music make your way over to Flask Lounge in Portland tonight where another round of Break It will be taking place. Beginning at 9 o’clock get ready to shake your tail feather to DJ sets from Seratto, Turd Ferguson, Phigitz and Mechanism.

If you’re looking to get your noodle on then make your way down to Port City Music Hall in Portland this evening where jam rock band Max Creek will be doing their beginning at 9.

More in the way of jams this evening as the Phish tribute band, Pardon Me, Doug make their debut at Brian Boru in the Old Port.  Featuring members of Heavy Dime, The Project, Giraffe Attack and more, these guys are ready to make you lose your head this Black Friday. Bust out your best moves beginning at 9.

Over at The Asylum in Portland a vertible smorgasbord of local bands come together to distribute a little Led for your head during this evening’s Thank You: A Tribute To Led Zeppelin. Beginning at 9 there’ll be performances from Murcielago, The Baltic Sea, Anna Lombard, Lit on the Flash, Samuel James, Clubber Lang, Station 85, John Nels, Dark Hollow Bottling Company, Heart Shaped Rock and more all paying respect to one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time.

The Mallett Brothers Band return home from the tour down south with their first Portland show in a while and tonight they’re bringing along some of their friends for this food stomping, whiskey drinking good time. Starting at 9 over at The Big Easy MBB will be joined by Providence roots rocker Joe Fletcher & The Wrong Reasons as well as Nashville singer-songwriter Samantha Harlow. It’s going to be one helluva party so hike up those Party Pants and prepare to get down.

If you’re south of the border this evening make sure you don’t miss local rockers Rustic Overtones as they do their thing on stage at The Dover Brickhouse in Dover, NH tonight. Party starts at 9pm.
