Jaw Gems & Altered Gee funk things up at Novare Res tonight

We’re half way through the working week and getting closer and closer to the freakin’ weekend. Celebrate this Wednesday by getting weird and absolutely wild at any (or all) of these live shows! Here we go!

Shanna Underwood and cellist Devon Colella will be performing a free dinner time set at Gather in Yarmouth this Wednesday. Starting at 6 take in the duo’s country-tinged Americana folk tunes while enjoying some tasty local fare.

Another great way to start out your Wednesday evening is down on the deck of Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street in downtown Portland where the fellas of local act Vinyl Tap will be pumping out some classic cover tunes for your listening pleasure.  This free event gets started right around 6 and is all ages and will feature songs from the likes of The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Cee Lo and many, many more.

Contemporary singer-songwriter Kayla Joe is geared up to play a free show over at The Porthole on Commercial Street in Portland this Wednesday. Join this locally based songstress as she performs live from 6 to 9 tonight.

Spice things up tonight with a free outdoor performance from Primo Cubano at the Mill Creek Park in South Portland. From 6:30 to 8 dance the early evening away to some of the best classic Cuban music around.

Folk rock singer-songwriter Nico Rivers will be tonight’s featured performer at Dogfish Bar & Grille’s acoustic open mic night. Enjoy some originals sounds from Nico and maybe even get up on stage and play some songs yourself as things get started around 7 this Wednesday evening.

If you’re south of Portland tonight take in some live music down at Prescott Park in Portsmouth as Brooklyn act The Lone Bellow takes to the stage for a full evening of bluegrass-style, three-way harmonies with just a touch of rock n’ roll as things get shakin’ right around 7 o’clock this Wednesday.

Cole Farms in Gray will be hosting a free open mic event this Wednesday evening. Grab your instrument of choice and get ready to play some live music starting right around 7 o’clock.

Locust Honey will be live at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this Wednesday. Starting at 7:30 this acts brings their respective experience in old-time Bluegrass and blues to life with a rotating instrumentation of fiddles, open-back and resonator banjos, acoustic and resonator guitars, and upright bass as well as three-part vocal harmonies. Tonight’s free show should be quite entertaining, so stop through if you’re out and about this Wednesday.

Hopefully Mother Nature will play nice so that another installment of the Sunset Folk Series can take place out on the Western Prom in Portland with local rocker Darien Brahms. If the weather holds out, make sure to grab some pals and make your way over to the Prom near Maine Med for tonight’s free, all ages event, which is slated to get underway right around 7:45.

The Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook welcomes back Ron Gill of local blues act Poke Chop and The Other White Meats for a free blues-based open mic night. The party starts right around 8.

 Organ-based trio Micromasse will be playing a free show live in the lounge of Frontier in Brunswick this Wednesday evening as part of the venue’s free Wednesday night music series. Beginning at 8 take in the melodic and mesmerizing sounds that Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas make together by combining guitar, drums and organ to pump out some superior instrumental jams.

Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in the Old Port welcomes back the Squid Jiggers to the stage as the duo plays their own brand of folk-infused drinking tunes starting at 8. There’s never, ever a cover charge and also never, ever a shortage of cold drinks, so make some moves and check ‘em out this Wednesday evening.

New Haven, CT’s Mission Zero, a trip-hop indie pop duo featuring siblings David and Chenot, will kick off their 2014 Lounge Tour at Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland tonight. They’ll be joined by Portland musicians Tyler DeVos of Forget, Forget and Dustin Saucier of Dustin Saucier and The Sad Bastards as things get underway right around 8 o’clock.

If you’re looking for some down home, acoustic roots tunes to wind down with this Wednesday get on down to Andy’s Old Port Pub in the Old Port to have a little bit of midweek fun with David Beam and The Custom House Gang. This local act gets things started right around 8 o’clock.

Take in the soulful Americana of California’s own Lee Koch tonight as he performs live on the stage of One Longfellow Square in Portland. Lee’s shows are known for their captivating and refreshing energy as he takes you on a journey through the musical elements of soul, folk, rock and Americana. Singer-songwriter Luke Orion will open things up tonight with a set that begins at 8pm.

Check out some great acoustic covers courtesy of Maine Transit Authority as RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland invites the act to the stage for a night chock full of acoustic music. This free and fun event gets started right around 8 o’clock this Wednesday.

Don’t miss out on one helluva party tonight down at Novare Res in the Old Port where every 3rd Wednesday of the month local act Jaw Gems will be funking things up out on the bier café’s patio with their psychedelic instrumental jams. This free party gets underway at 8 o’clock and will also feature the ultra-spacey funkadelic sounds of Altered Gee.

LA act Lord Huron will be at the State Theatre in Portland tonight. This indie folk act is recommended for any of you who like such acts as Fleet Foxes, The Head & The Heart, Lumineers, The War on Drugs, and Bon Iver. Seattle-based singer-songwriter James Apollo will get tonight’s show started with an opening set beginning right around 8pm.

Rap Night is bringing the thunder to The Asylum in Portland tonight as they Vorheez, Turtle Handz and more to the stage for some hip-hop heavy showcase performances. Get ready for some good times, good vibes, and good people as things get underway right around 9 tonight. There’ll also be early and late night open mic cyphers happening tonight, so be sure to check it out if you’re looking for some high-energy rhymes and beats this Wednesday evening!
