Heart Shaped Rock celebrates the release of their new record with a free show at Brian Boru

I’m sure your mums probably said something similar, but my mum always told me that if I didn’t have anything nice to say, then I probably shouldn’t say anything at all. So today I will abide by that rule as I talk about this week and how not particularly nice it’s been. Of course there’s nothing specific to pinpoint, just feeling a bit blah, but hey! Enough Negative Nunz ranting and more Newz giving! It’s go time so let’s do this thing and get ready to kick start the weekend! Let’s Thursday!

Tunes come in twos tonight over at Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland as a couple of folk duo acts take to the stage for an evening of music. Two Tree and Arborea will be filling the room with beautiful sounds starting right around 7 o’clock tonight.

Portland’s own twisted rockabilly heroes Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies return to Empire Dine and Dance on Congress Street in Portland for their regularly scheduledThursday night gig. The fellas gear up for yet another high-energy rock n’ roll show downstairs at the venue. Things get cranking right around around 7:30pm.

The super talented fellas in The Ghost of Paul Revere will be getting things rollin’ over at the Dogfish Bar & Grille in Portland around 8 tonight. If you’re into awesome stringed tunes, soaring voices and foot stomping melodies then make your way over to the Dogfish for tonight’s free show.

Brothers Cody and Clint Phipps will be bringing their acoustic country-rock act, Pitch Black Ribbons, down to The Run of the Mill in Saco this evening.  You can check the fellas out as they play a set for free starting right around 8 o’clock.

An intimate evening of inventive indie rock will be making its way to the stage of Flask Lounge in Portland tonight as Ben Johnson, Kissing Club and Oliver Waterman join forces for tonight’s free gig. Things get cranking right around 9 o’clock, so stop on by and check it out.

If you’re looking for some high-energy, high-quality RnR (rock n’ roll, of course!) then make your way down to Brian Boru in the Old Port tonight where local rockers Heart Shaped Rock celebrates the release of their new album Brought It On with a straight up party. Things get started right around 9 with an opening set from their pals Bates Hotel.

If want to bust a move this thirsty Thursday to tunes from bands such as Sublime, Blink 182, and even Chumbawumba (yup, Chumbawumba), then you should probably head out to Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port where 90s cover band Hello Newman will be getting the party started right around 9:30 tonight.

Maybe you need to bust some moves and mellow your mind tonight, well good thing you can do just that right on over at The Big Easy in Portland for another fun night with Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas will jam out on everything from the Allman Brothers, Phish, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good people, and maybe even a few hula-hoops starting right around 9:30.

Vinyl Tap will be bringing the Thursday night thunder once again to Gritty’s on Fore Street in Portland as the fellas get ready to make everyone bust a move to their awesome and exceedingly danceable cover tunes that vary from Huey Lewis to Cee Lo Green, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and more. There’s never a cover charge and plenty of beer, so check ‘em out as they get the party started around 9:30pm.

Grab a nice hot toddy and take in some experimental tonight down at Sonny’s on Exchange Street in the Old Port tonight where the Jaw Gems will be doing their thing from 10 o’clock until closing time.
