The Grumps rock Portland Lobster Company this Monday

Before we get this thing going, I would like to take a moment to extend a giant thank you and show some serious gratitude and respect to all of those who have served and continue to serve our country. Thank you for all that you do and all that you have sacrificed, your efforts are appreciated on a daily basis.

Since it is Memorial Day that means most of you have this Monday off meaning that you might be in the mood to extend the long weekend into the evening, if so, here are a few places to do just that!

Local pop rockers, The Grumps will be playing some tunes outside on the Portland Lobster Company deck this Monday evening. I couldn’t think of a better way to round out a long and lovely seeking by taking in some free music outside starting right around 5 o’clock.

The Grumps

James Wholey will be playing the blues live at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland tonight. Starting at 6:30 you can check out a set of acoustic driven blues tunes at this free show that is certain to be a great way to wind down a long weekend.

Don’t forget to check out some free, live music at MJ’s Wine Bar at One City Center in Portland as the venue offers up some terrific wines and spirits as well as some jazz, funk and soul courtesy of house band that features such talented local players as Kyle Friday, Jacob Cooley, Tony Palumbo, and James Finison. These cats are always welcome to having other musicians come up and play with them, so be sure to stop by and have a listen, or even get up and play, as things get underway around 7 tonight.

Check out some entertaining open mic action down at the Kerrymen Pub in Saco where beginning at 7:30 both solo musicians and full bands are welcome to take to the stage and do their thing in front of an audience of music lovers and peers. Tonight’s event is free and certain to be a lot of fun, so swing through if you’re in the area this Monday.

Kerrymen Pub Open Mic

Over at RiRa on Commercial Street you’ll find the affable and always entertaining Mr. Evan Walsh hosting yet another edition of his open mic night that gets underway right around 8. EvGuy has instruments available for you to play and even if you can’t actually play any instrument, he’ll help you out by jamming out a version of a song for you to sing along to! Grab some pals, down some liquid courage, and check it out.

Take in some bustling bluegrass and grab a slice of delicious Otto pizza down at Otto’s lower Congress Street location where Joe Walsh and some of his friends will be serving up some tasty tunes for your Monday night. Tonight’s event is free and gets started 8 o’clock.

Bang your head and thrash it out with some live, loud death metal down at Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland tonight where Scalpel and Dead By Now join forces for one ferociously awesome show that gets started right around 9.
