Get rootsy with Gunther Brown tonight at Blue in Portland

So I’m not sure how much Fridaying will be happening tomorrow with this “crippling blizzard” (thanks for not getting over dramatic, weather.com), so it may be in your best interest to hike up your Party Pants and get down to business this thirsty Thursday. Here are the haps all around town and beyond tonight.

Looking for some funk, soul, and smooth R&B jams to ease you on into the freakin’ weekend, then make your way over to The Frog & Turtle in Westbrook where Adam and The Waxmen will be delivering smooth sounds to your earholes starting at 7pm.

Portland’s own twisted rockabilly rockers and rollers Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies return to Empire Dine and Dance on Congress Street in Portland for their Thursday night residency with a high-energy show full of twang and good times downstairs at the venue. Things get fired up right around 7:30 and there’s no cover charge, so stop on by and check it out.

The Run of the Mill in Saco gets ready for a straight up dose of funk and soul with a little bit of jams to boot as Chronic Funk brings the party starting right around 8 o’clock. Free, fun and funky: check it out if you’re in the area tonight.

Maybe you need to truly rock it out this evening and welcome the weekend with some ringing ears on Friday morning. If that’s the case head down to The Asylum in Portland where things get cranked to at least eleven tonight as Sevendust takes the stage alongside special guests Lacuna Coil and Avatar. Things get heavy right around 8 o’clock.

If you’re looking to check out some old timey, roots/bluegrass music, then check out Tricky Britches who will be playing a set over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille in Portland. These talented fellas will be serving up their own style of back porch jam session bluegrass starting right around 8 o’clock.

A full Thursday evening of Americana and folk tunes will be blasting through Blue on Congress Street in Portland as Gunther Brown takes the stage for some tunes in this truly intimate setting. The fellas get things started this Thursday evening right around 9 o’clock, so swing by and check ‘em out.

If you wanna mellow your mind tonight then head on over to The Big Easy in Portland for another fun night with Band Beyond Description. These guys are a lot more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas will jam out on everything from the Allman Brothers, Phish, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good people, and maybe even a few hula-hoops starting right around 9:30.

Pop-rockers Kilcollins settle in for their regular thirsty Thursday night gig over at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland. Starting right around 9:30, these fellas will be rockin’ and rollin’ to all the classic cover tunes you know and love, so check ‘em out.

Vinyl Tap is ready to bring the Thursday night thunder once again to Gritty’s in the Old Port tonight. These fellas are known for making people bust a move to their awesome and exceedingly danceable cover tunes that vary from Huey Lewis to Cee Lo Green, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and everything in between. There’s never a cover charge and plenty of beer, so check it out starting at 9:30.

If want to bust a move this thirsty Thursday to tunes from bands such as Sublime, Blink 182, and even Chumbawumba (yup, Chumbawumba), then you should probably head out to Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port where 90s cover band Hello Newman will be getting the party started right around 9:30 tonight.

Local rocker, Trent Gay will be pairing up with siren Anna Lombard tonight to perform some tunes together over at Sonny’s in the Old Port.  Lombard and her rock/soul band, anna & the diggs, will follow the duo’s performance with a set of songs. This free event gets underway right around 10 tonight and is absolutely free-of-charge, so check it out.
