Gearing Up For A Ghoulish Saturday Evening

By: Holly Nunan

I hope you guys didn’t go too hard Friday night because tonight is the night where every one in all of the land is throwing some sort of Halloween party.  That’s right, the one night of the year where it is socially acceptable to act like a complete moron whilst dressed as something completely inappropriate!  So much celebrating to be done, so eat your Boo Berry cereal, do some stretches like good boys and ghouls, and get ready to do it to it this evening!

Port City Music Hall in Portland welcomes freaks of all ages to come out and celebrate the holiday this evening with a super charged rock show featuring Dead Season along with Beyond The Fall and Breakthrough.  This evening’s all ages Halloween party begins at 6 o’clock.

The fine ladies of Maine Roller Derby invite you to get devilish with them this evening over at Flask Lounge in Portland for a night of SCAREoke.  DJ Cougar will be on for you to belt ‘em out all evening long beginning at 7.

It’s time once again for SPACE Gallery’s annual Halloween party where another lineup of local artists have banded together to cover some of your favorite bands.  Dress to impress and get ready for a night of craziness as members of Haru Bangs and Mouth Washington channel Fugazi, The Coalsack in Crux bring you The Gun Club and Sunset Hearts set things off as the Talking Heads.  This event usually sells out so make sure you get there early, right around 8pm.

If you’re looking for some soul shaking scares then make sure you get yourself down to The Big Easy in Portland for tonight’s Kung Fu Halloween Soul-Down.  The Kenya Hall Band teams up with Model Airplane and Adam & The Waxmen for a night of getting down with some of your best zombie dance moves, but don’t eat any faces, as they’ll attempt to melt yours with their sweet, funky soul sounds starting at 8 o’clock.

A smorgasbord of local talent bombards Empire Dine and Dance in Portland tonight for a costume party of epic proportions.  Tonight delight your ghoulish senses with the sounds of local acts GinLab, The Other Bones, Anna & The Diggs, and Policewomanwithfangs.  Things get shaking right around 9 tonight.

Maybe you’re looking to hide out away from all the All Hallows Eve stuff, if that’s the case make your way to the basement of The Asylum where an excellent night of Drum & Bass dance music will be taking place with resident DJs Styknyne and Illogik as well as special guests DJ Joyride and Gestalt.  Tonight’s underground dance party gets underway around 9.

If you’re north of Portland tonight and hangin’ near Sunday River then make sure you get over to The Phoenix and party with Rustic Overtones and special guests The Mallett Brothers Band and Shut Down Brown.  This is sure to be a real barnburner and Rustic’s latest album, Let’s Start A Cult, should provide ample inspiration for your Halloween costume.  Shake those bones starting at 9.

Also up in Waterville tonight there’ll be some acoustic music, positive vibes and crunchy jams taking over Mainely Brews as Mellow Endeavor takes the stage and rocks things out beginning at 10pm.

If you’re south of Portland this evening there are a few things to check out as well starting with a solo show from Jacob Augustine at The Run of the Mill in Saco.  Starting at 8 you can check out a set of emotional, experimental and one of a kind tunes from Augustine.

Local Americana rockers This Way will be holding a musical party of epic proportions with special guests the Adam Ezra Group from Boston down at The Stone Church in Newmarket, NH this evening.  Shimmy on down and get ready to tie one on starting at 9 o’clock.

And if you’re really looking to check out something terrifying come on down to Jimmy the Greek’s in Old Orchard Beach where myself and the WBLM Band will be performing for their annual Halloween party.  Beers, classic rock and things that can never be unseen begin at 9 o’clock.
