Forget, Forget, Temperature of the Sun & ShaShaSha shake things up at the Empire tonight

It’s a most festive Friday! The weekend is nigh and there are a ton of terrific shows to take in this evening, so put on your ugliest sweater, hike up some holiday Party Pants and get ready to do it to it!

Gritty’s celebrates its 25th birthday this evening with a big ol’ open house at its Fore Street location in the Old Port this Friday. There’ll be all kinds of good times and good tunes happening starting at 4 with local pop-American group the Jason Spooner Trio playing right around 9 o’clock. Be sure to swing through, grab a brew and have some fun this finally Friday!

Local rockers Fifth Freedom celebrate the release of their latest record with a roaring rock n’ roll party up at Club Texas in Auburn. The all-ages party starts at 6 o’clock with opening performances from The Veayo Twins and Resistance.

Another Nashville-style Songwriters in the Round event will be taking place at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this Friday evening. Tonight they welcome two terrific songwriters to the circle for a set of tunes and tales that’ll get underway right around 6. Anticipate great songs and silly stories from local music-makers, Shanna Underwood, Roy Davis (of The Coloradas) and Steve Roy.

Aeterna Trio, an original music, classical crossover act, will be performing a special holiday concert at Acoustic Artisans on Congress Street in Portland this Friday evening. The trio will present a full evening of classical, modern and holiday themes like you’ve never heard ‘em before beginning at 7 o’clock.

Local music label, Lorem Ipsum Recordings, welcomes one and all to their first ever holiday music festival featuring performances from nine Maine musicians at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland this Friday evening. Starting at 7 o’clock join a crew of merry makers and witness songs and stories from Wildcat, Texarkana, Muckie Mittens, Welterweight, Tall Horse, Starlight Cicada, Erik Neilson, Whit Walker, and Geoff Zimmerman.

Some super duper country tunes will be twanging away tonight at Lisa’s Restaurant & Lounge in Augusta as The Cowboy Angels saddle up to play you the best classic country covers all night long. Crooning, toe tapping, and twang starts at 7:30.

Up at the Big Rock Ski Resort in Mars Hill, Maine you can check out a show from local rockers Rustic Overtones as they do their thing on stage starting right around 8 o’clock.

If you’re hanging outside of Portland tonight be sure to check out a good time happening RJ’s Pub in South Portland tonight as Captain Ray and the Castaways are geared up to keep you dancing all Friday night long with some rock and/or roll starting right around 8.

Kris Hype of local rock acts Breakthrough and Left On The Outside will be playing a free, all-ages acoustic show at Tailgate Bar & Grill in Gray tonight. Check out Kris as he performs original songs as well as some covers as things get underway right around 8.

It’s time again for Jazz Friday over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland tonight. Some very talented cats in the form of LQH (Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines) will be bringing their melting pot of sound that touches on everything from soul to jazz to funk to rock over to The Dogfish starting at 8 o’clock tonight.

Big Ol’ Dirty Bucket are gonna make you shake your money maker all night long as they blow up the stage of The Thirsty Moose Taphouse in Portsmouth, NH tonight with some straight up funk.  Things get shakin’ right around 8 o’clock, so stop by and bust a move or two if you’re in the area this evening.

If you’re up in Waterville this evening and looking for some old timey, roots and bluegrass music, then head over to Mainely Brews where the Tricky Britches will be playing a set this evening. They’ll be serving up their own style of back porch jams starting right around 9.

If you’re south of the border tonight check out a great rock n’ roll show taking place at The Dover Brickhouse in Dover, New Hampshire. Starting at 9 you can check out high-energy sets from Halo & The Harl0ts, Tancred, The Box Tiger and When Particles Collide.

Local electro-pop-rock act The Other Bones will be opening up tonight’s show at the Press Room in Portsmouth where NY-based funk act Kung Fu will be putting a little glide in your stride. Things get underway right around 9 o’clock, so swing through and check it out if you’re in the Seacoast area tonight.

A big ol’ night of rock and roll takes over Geno’s in Portland this finally Friday as three local acts get ready to rumble beginning at 9 o’clock. Check out the debut performance of Lung as well as sets from RnR act Triage and the post-rock/black metal of Apocryphonic.

I’ve been looking forward to letting loose and weird-rockin’ out at tonight’s show up at Empire on Congress Street in Portland. Tonight psychedelic rock act ShaShaSha plays their last show of the year alongside indie pop rockers Forget, Forget and Bangor’s own Temperature of the Sun. The party starts and good times start rollin’ right around 9 o’clock.

If you’re in the mood for some Drum and Bass action this Friday evening, then make your way over to Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland where the Digital Mercenaries will be blasting the best dub, drum & bass, and hip-hop jams all night long beginning at 9.

 

If you find yourself up in the Hallowell area this evening be sure to stop by Easy Street Lounge as The Whitefields take to the stage right around 9 o’clock. Best described as a folk, funk and rock venture, this band is known for its strong vocal harmonies. Expect a wide range of styles as they take the stage tonight.

Travis James Humphrey and the Retro Rockets will be packing ‘em in down at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland tonight. Starting at 9, Travis Humphrey leads this blues and swing 3-pack through classics and originals.

Vinyl Tap will be rockin’ a free show upstairs at Brian Boru in the Old Port this Friday evening. Starting at 9:30 check these fellas out as they play party renditions of songs from The Beatles to Cee Lo Green, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and more.

The fellas in Kilcollins bring their rock and roll party to Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port as they gear up for a fun filled night.  Beginning at 9:30 the boys will be playing covers of tunes that everyone knows, loves, and can shake a tail feather to.

If you’re Fridaying up in the Naples area, then check out a free rock n’ roll show over at Bray’s Brew Pub, which gets underway right around 9:30, featuring local rock act Tilden Katz.

Two extremely talented local ladies will be performing a special acoustic set of songs at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this evening. Beginning at 10 o’clock, swing through and check out this free, fun show featuring the songs of Clara Junken and Andi Fawcett.
