Forget, Forget, KGFREEZE & Lisa/Liza indie rock out at The Big Easy

Sometimes I feel as if I may sound like a broken record on Fridays, but truthfully I did not think I was going to make it this week. It was a long, arduous journey to finally make it to the freakin’ weekend and I’m throwing in the towel for this week, hiking up my finest pair of Party Pants and getting down on it like it ain’t nobody’s business but my own! I have to thoroughly Friday, as I’ll be outta town at a Sox game tomorrow (please pray for my survival…and maybe even a win), so thankfully there’s a ton of great stuff to check out. Get ready to make some magic happen because here we go!

Get things going nice and early this evening with some rustic, old-time blues courtesy of the David Mello Trio down at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland. Starting at 5 you can enjoy some great tunes and tasty beverages.

Those foot stomping, good ol’ boys North of Nashville never, ever slow down and that’s why you can check them out tonight out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company. The boys will be rockin’, rollin’ and twangin’ outside for free starting right around 7 o’clock.

The immensely talented folk-country siren known as Shanna Underwood will be performing a set of tunes down at the newly reopened and renovated Hive in Kennebunk this finally Friday evening. If you’re kicking around the area tonight, then be sure to stop by and enjoy some songs starting at 7 o’clock.

Things are going to get loud up in the Lewiston/Auburn area as local rockers Culling The Herd and Saturns Return take the stage by storm at Narals in Auburn tonight. Check these dudes out as they get ready to bring the thunder starting right around 8.

All kinds of jamming will be going on tonight as Zach Deputy takes the stage at One Longfellow Square in Portland for a full night of funk, soul and of course, jams.  Deputy will appeal to you cats that dig Jack Johnson and Amos Lee, so if that sounds like your style, then make your way over to OLS right around 8 o’clock tonight.

If you’re looking to get down to some good tunes this Friday, then make your way out to JP Thornton’s in South Portland where Doubting Gravity will be getting the party started right around 8 o’clock this evening. Andi Fawcett and the fellas of Doubting Gravity will be brining you the best original pop rock tunes around, so grab a beer and shake your can this evening.

Mystic Folk Opera strips down to duo form this evening for a fun Friday night show at The Local Buzz in Cape Elizabeth. Starting at 8 you can check out some soulful blues-rock from two the act’s members.

If you’re hanging in The ‘Brook tonight you really should take some time to check out some super soul blended with a bit of Americana courtesy of The ToneKings as this super fun local band gets down to it over at The Frog & Turtle on Main Street starting at 8:30.

Shake like a salt shaker down at Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland tonight with the Converge Dance Party featuring a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and probably some tuneage from the likes of Carl Fisher, Kid Ray, and Mechanism. Tonight’s free party gets underway at 9.

The power of rock compels you to Portland’s oldest bar, Mathew’s for one helluva show featuring Two Forty Gordy, Clubber Lang and Society, Inc. Prepare to have your face melted off and your hair blown back right around 9 tonight.

The Repeat Offenders are ready to party this Friday evening over at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston where they’ll be serving up some reggae-rock all night long starting right around 9 o’clock.

Your finally Friday should also consist of some delectable indie rock down at the Big Easy in Portland courtesy of three very awesome and unique acts. Tonight Forget, Forget celebrates the recording of their debut album with one helluva party featuring KGFREEZE and Lisa/Liza. I anticipate lots of smiling and dancing at tonight’s event so make sure you get there early and stay there late as the festivities start right around 9.

Let your freak flag fly down in Old Orchard Beach as a couple of high energy shows take place this evening starting with some Americana roots infused with a bit of rockabilly as Ragged Jack takes to the stage of Last Call in OOB right around 9 for a full night of swinging.

Over at The Pier Patio Pub you can check out some live hip-hop from the one and only JB5 who will be doing their thing all night long starting right around 9.

If you’re making magic happen south of Portland tonight, down in the Portsmouth, NH area, then be sure to swing through the Press Room to check out seasoned blues guitarist Matthew Stubbs as he does his thing starting at 9.

If you’re looking for some reggae and funk to bust a move or two to this evening then look no further than Mainely Brews up in Waterville where The Beat Horizon will be laying it down for your finally Friday. The good times start rollin’ at this free show starting at 9:30.

Get a little funk in your junk and a little slide in your glide with the one and only Mama’s Boomshack at Bull Feeney’s in Portland. These cats are truly a forceful Funkasaurus Rex if I ever saw one! They’ll be busting out some good sounds starting right around 9:30.

If getting weird and wild through the power of rock and roll is what you’re into this Friday night, then get on over to Brian Boru in Portland where you can check out Velourosaurus. That’s right, Eric Bettencourt is back in town so he’s ready to tear it up with his old cover band Velourosaurus. Beginning at 9:30 the fellas will be bringing you the best jams with selections from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Daniels, Cee Lo Green, and many more.

And if you’re still kickin’ it hard right around 11 o’clock this Friday, you should most definitely make your way over to SPACE Gallery in Portland for tonight’s PortFringe event, The Boys of Beast: A Tribute to The Beastie Boys presented by the talented Ms. Erin Enberg. Selected chapters from the (fictional) Unofficial Beastie Boys Biography (which is based on actual interviews, imagination, rumors, the way LL Cool J remembers things and some truth) will be enacted by the Bboyz with help from The Beastie Boys’ Wives, the Beastie Girls and hosted by LL Cool J, with an appearance by The Wizard of Hip Hop! What’s the time? It’s time to get ill! So check it out!
