Dance the night away with Kurt Baker at Mod Night over at Empire Dine and Dance

Alright, I know that today is one of the most bloated, corporate holidays known to man to make everyone feel awkward, obligated, and often times lonely, but there’s no reason for any of that as there are plenty of things happening around town for you to indulge in either with a sweetheart or by yourself.  Be your own Valentine; consume massive amounts of chocolate, put some flowers in your hair and buy yourself a fancy cocktail somewhere nice before headed out to one or all of these V-Day events this evening.

The Portland Flea-for-All on Kennebec Street in Portland gets in on the lovey dovey action tonight with their LOVE LIKE WOAH show that gets underway right around 6:30. LOVE LIKE WOAH is a night of music to benefit Speak About It, which is a performance-based presentation about consent, boundaries and healthy relationships. This evening the Flea-for-All becomes a venue hosting two faces from the New England post-folk music scene, Laura Cortese and Dietrich Strause, for a night of terrific tunes.

Roses are red, violets are blue, Model Airplane loves Luther Vandross and R. Kelly too! Tonight Model Airplane becomes the Model Airplane Orchestra with strings and horns for a night of love and lust. Tonight they’re honoring both sides of the heartstring spectrum with a set dedicated to love songs and set dedicated to the desire to find love. The super sexy, funky jazz outfit known as Jaw Gems will kick the whole evening off down at The Big Easy in Portland right around 8 o’clock, so get your mojo going and head on down to dance to night away.

How about a little rhymes and rhythm for you and your sweetie tonight? Head down to Iron Trails Saloon in Acton for a night of hip-hop courtesy of Click North, Ryan Augustus and DJ Tommy Blaze. Things get jumping right around 8.

Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland invites one and all to come dance the night away in something super shiny for their V-Day Sequin Dance Party featuring DJs Nan’l, Grace Symmetrical, Marieke-Vi, and Matty. So get bedazzled and join the (free) fun right around 9 o’clock tonight.

Ever wondered how Portland’s Human Exclamation Point, Kurt Baker, celebrates his V-Day? Well, wonder no more as you can spend tonight with one of the most fun record spinners around, who will be putting on a very special Valentine’s edition of Mod Night at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland. Kurt will be shakin’ it down to some of the most groovin’ and infectious Motown, northern soul, pop, rock n’ roll and new wave music. So bust out those pink Party Pants and get ready to cut a rug this evening to some of KB’s finest vinyl selections beginning at 9 o’clock.

Mama’s Boomshack brings the funk and soul to your Valentine’s evening with a free show over at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland. Check ‘em out and bust a move beginning at 9 o’clock.

Up the street a tick, Hello Newman will be playing all of your favorite 90s love songs and more upstairs at Bull Feeney’s tonight. The party starts, with no cover charge, right around 9:30pm.

And right across the street from Bull Feeney’s, the fellas of Vinyl Tap are ready to bring the Thursday night thunder to Gritty’s in the Old Port. Vinyl Tap is known for making people bust a move to their awesome and exceedingly danceable cover tunes that vary from Huey Lewis to Cee Lo Green, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and everything in between. There’s never a cover charge and plenty of beer, so check it out starting at 9:30.
