Check out some live hip-hop at Geno's in Portland tonight

Holy Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus, I am absolutely ready for this week to cut it out already! At least I can find solace in the fact that it’s Thursday and Thursdays ‘round these parts rarely disappoint, so I guess it’s time to suck it up and get on out there this evening. Here we go!

Down at The Frog and Turtle in Westbrook The Waiters will be serving up some quality cover tunes for your Thursday evening.  This fun function band will be playing all of your favorite tunes starting at 7.

Nashville’s William Tyler will be playing an intimate show at The Oak and The Ax on Main Street in Biddeford this Thursday evening. William Tyler comes from good Southern stock, a Nashville lifer who’s played with Lambchop, the Silver Jews, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Charlie Louvin, Candi Staton. Tom K will join him by getting tonight’s performance started right around 8 o’clock.

Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland will be taking things to the limit this Friday night with some urban Chicago blues courtesy of Mike James’ Blue Lions. The fun starts right around 8 tonight, so check it out if you’re kicking it in the Old Port.

There are some good times to be had at Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland this evening as Sorcha & The Clearing play some blues, jazz, country and Latin influenced jams starting at 8. It’s a free show, so swing through if you’re downtown this evening and looking for something super fun to do.

Port City Music Hall in Portland is ready for a night filled with feel-good, groove-oriented Americana-rock as they welcome Donna the Buffalo and special guests the Adam Ezra Group to the stage this Thursday. Things get crankin’ right around 8 o’clock tonight, so swing through and check it out.

Pick up your banjo, mandolin, guitar or any other stringed instrument of your choice and get on stage with The Hive in Kennebunk’s house bluegrass pickers, The Sock Puppets for an evening of bluegrass infused jams open to everyone. The pickin’ party starts at 8 o’clock.

Kilcollins will be pop rockin’ the night away over at RiRa on Commercial Street. Starting at 9 o’clock the fellas will get your Thursday crankin’ with all sorts of tunes that you know in love with a handful of catchy original jams for good measure. It’s free, fun and I would say guaranteed to be a good time, so check it out if you’re downtown this evening.

Local blues men Samuel James and Dana Gross team up to bring you a night of tunes over at Blue on Congress Street in Portland. Starting at 9 these talented dudes will be singing some tunes and plucking some guitar strings to help you thoroughly enjoy your Thursday evening, so check it out.

Check out two of Portland’s full band hip-hop collectives at Geno’s in Portland tonight as Violently Ill and Immense Porpoise hype up the crowd alongside special guest DPA IgorRakuz. Things get started at 9 and a $2 cover gets ya in the door!

Get down to Gritty’s in Portland to check out Vinyl Tap as they cover everything from Huey Lewis, Elton John, The Beatles and many, many more. If you’re looking for a non-stop dance party, then swing through as they start playing at 9:30 and there’s never, ever a cover charge.

Get your groove on with some of the best tunes the 90s ever had to offer from such bands as Sublime, Blink 182, the Gin Blossoms, Everclear, No Doubt and even Chumbawumba (yes, Chumbawumba) over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port where Hello Newman will be priming the party right around 9:30.

Grab a tasty adult beverage and take in some experimental tonight down at Sonny’s on Exchange Street in the Old Port tonight where the Jaw Gems will be doing their thing from 10 o’clock until closing time.
