As much as I don’t want to it is time to saddle up for another working week. We might as well make the most out of our Monday and make it decidedly less lame by checking out some fun events all around town and beyond, so here we go!
Make the most out of your Monday with some marvelous jams down at MJ’s Wine Bar, located at One City Center in Portland. Tonight this unique venue will host another jazz, funk and soul night that is open to all musicians to sit in and play with the house band, which consists of such talented local cats as Kyle Friday, Jacob Cooley, Tony Palumbo, and James Finison. These guys are always into welcoming other artists up to play with them. The event itself is free, so check things out as things get started at 7 o’clock.
There’s even more open mic action to check out tonight down at the Kerrymen Pub in Saco. Starting at 7:30 both solo musicians and full bands are encouraged to take to the stage and do their thing in front of a live audience. Tonight’s event is free, fun, and a great way to show off your musical capabilities to an enthusiastic crowd, so swing through if you’re in the area this Monday evening.
If you’re looking to take in some of the local music scene’s best bluegrass then head out to Otto on Congress Street in Portland tonight where local picker Joe Walsh will be joined by some of his musically inclined friends for a night of tunes. Grab a slice of pie and enjoy some free music as the party starts right around 8 o’clock tonight.
Even more open mic action for ya this Monday, this time it’s down at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland where Evan Walsh will be hosting yet another edition of what he calls ‘an adult talent show’. Things get underway around 8 and EvGuy even has some instruments available for you to play. If you can’t actually play anything, he’ll help you out by performing a version of a song for you to sing along to. So stop through and get your performance on, people!
Former Hallowell resident, Dan Galucki returns to the area for a show at Slates alongside his cohort, Dustin Hamman. The two make up the Portland, Oregon based, indie-folk band, Run On Sentence, which will be taking to stage right around 8:15 tonight.
