We did it, my babies! We made it all the way to Friday! It’s time to throw all caution to the wind and party like there’s no tomorrow – except there is, and tomorrow is Saturday, so keep yourselves together, please and thank you. Anyway, there’s a boat load of awesome stuff to do and see tonight, so let’s jump right in!
Tonight local blues and jazz singer-songwriter Stesha Cano celebrates the release of her latest record, Simple As Everything, with a celebration at the Next Generation Theatre in Brewer, Maine. This evening’s show gets underway right around 6 o’clock and your ticket includes a pre-show reception with refreshments as well as a signed copy of Stesha’s new album.
Another Nashville-style Songwriters in the Round event will be taking place at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this Friday evening. Tonight they welcome three terrific songwriters to the circle for a set of tunes and tales that’ll get underway right around 6. Anticipate great songs and silly stories from local music-makers, Shanna Underwood, Troy Bennett, and Hawk Kallweit.
Help locally-based non-profit booking agency, Coffee House Booking, celebrate two years of creating and promoting live, acoustic shows by checking out an alternative acoustic set this evening at the Stevens Avenue Congregational Church in Portland featuring Joel Carpenter & The Effects as well as Endless Escapade. Tonight’s celebration gets underway at 6:30pm.
The Peter Alexander Band will be performing at the Chocolate Church Arts Center in Bath this Friday evening. Peter is known for his unique songwriting, soulful voice and unparalleled 12-string guitar playing. This evening’s events starts at 7 o’clock with opening sets from special guests Red Beans and Rice and Robby Simpson
Get into the swing of things this Friday with The Mainiac Swing Dance Society’s Port City Swing at The Woodfords Club in Portland. Things get started at 8 o’clock with a beginners lesson on swing dancing followed by rockin’ tunes courtesy of local DJs. This is a costume ball after all so dress to impress and possible when a sweet prize!
It’s time again for Jazz Friday over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland tonight. Some very talented cats in the form of LQH (Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines) will be bringing their melting pot of sound that touches on everything from soul to jazz to funk to rock over to The Dogfish starting at 8 o’clock tonight.
If you’re looking to tickle your funny bone this Friday, then go ahead and bust a gut starting at 8 with some of Portland’s most comical people at Local Laughs over at The Asylum in Portland. Tonight laugh until it hurts at this free show featuring stand up performances from Jake Jacobson, Connor McGrath, Brian Brinegar, Johnny Ater, and more.
Put a little pep in your step and a little glide in your stride as things get super funky over at Port City Music Hall on Congress Street in Portland where NY-based funk act Kung Fu teams up with Portland’s own Sly-Chi for a night of fun and, obviously, funk. The party starts at 8 o’clock, so shine up those dancing shoes and get ready to get down on it this evening.
Local folk-rock trio Silent Sam & The Evans will be playing some songs this evening down at The Hive in Kennebunk. Beginning at 8 o’clock these fellas will be putting a little pet into your Friday evening with some good tunes and good times.
If you’re kicking it outside of Portland tonight be sure to check out a good time happening RJ’s Pub in South Portland tonight as Captain Ray and the Castaways are geared up to keep you dancing all Friday night long with some rock and/or roll starting right around 8:30.
A night of unique, local tuneage takes over Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge this Friday evening as a handful of Portland-based acts come together to create some beautiful music. Beginning at 9 o’clock you can anticipate hearing everything from soaring voices, acoustic guitars, and electronic sounds from Geoff Zimmerman, Caro Khan, Tall Horse and Don Damiani. Local funk rockers, Chaos Sauce celebrates the release of their latest EP, Five Songs with an all out rager upstairs at Empire on Congress Street in Portland. The fellas are geared up for a night of dancing and debauchery alongside their pals Shut Down Brown and Foster & Ulitz. Tonight’s event is three dollars at the door and gets crankin’ right around 9 o’clock.
If you’re up in Bar Harbor, Carmen Verandah welcomes Vermont Joy Parade to their unique stage. The Vermont Joy Parade is an ensemble, which features banjo, trumpet, accordion, guitar, upright bass, and drums. They group plays everything from Americana to indie-rock, blues, country and everything in between. Tonight’s show gets underway at 9 o’clock.
Double doses of fun at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port this evening where downstairs you can take in some acoustic pop gems from Jacob McCurdy and upstairs you can get electric with the pop-rockers of Kilcollins. Both acts will start doing their things, cover-free, beginning at 9:30.
KGFREEZE frontman, Kyle Gervais will be donning his DJ hat this evening as his spins tunes over at Sonny’s in the Old Port. Starting at 10 o’clock pair a tasty beverage with some tasty tunes as KG plays stuff you love and stuff you didn’t know you loved.
