What better way to celebrate the fact that another Monday is behind us than by getting out tonight and acting completely irresponsible? Sounds like one of the better ideas I’ve had in a while, if I do say so myself. There are a handful of tasty Tuesday nuggets to be had tonight, so get out there and savor them all.
Some of Portland’s finest funk, soul, blues and R&B players come together to celebrate the last night of Carnival before everyone gives up all the good stuff for Lent. Tonight celebrate Mardi Gras in style with a costume ball down at The Big Easy in Portland. The Fat Tuesdays will be backing up such cats as Lyle Divinsky, Darien Brahms, Lex Jones, Adam Waxmen, Kenya Hall and Frank Hopkins as they bring the funk and soul to your Fat Tuesday celebrations. Special guests The ToneKings will kick things off right around 8 o’clock. So grab your finest beads and party down New Orleans style!
Empire Dine and Dance on Congress Street will be getting all kinds of smooth tonight with Yacht Blooded: A Live Smooth 70s AM Radio Party. Starting right around 8 you can check out local musicians, Scott Girouard and Will Gattis as they team up to do such covers as Hall and Oates, Ambrosia, Gerry Rafferty, Michael McDonald and many more. It happens every Tuesday night downstairs at The Empire. It’s free and super fun, so swing on by and check it out.
If you’re looking to break it down this Tuesday evening then head on over to Flask Lounge in Portland where another installment of Drop It: Open Decks will be taking place. Beginning at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing some open tables, all you’ll need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones. As always Drop It is an absolutely free-of-charge event and is always a good time, so shine up those rage shoes and get ready to throw down.
Another freebie to take in tonight happens over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge as DJ Ponyfarm presents another fun-filled evening of karaoke. Stop by Slainte and belt out some of your favorite pp tunes starting at 9 o’clock.
If you’re looking to take some time out this Tuesday and kick it with some experimental jazz then make your way over to Local 188 on Congress Street where the Jaw Gems will be doing their thing starting right around 10pm.
