Builder of the House gets emotional tonight at The Big Easy for a Bright Eyes Cover to Cover

I don’t know about you guys, but Monday drop kicked me in the face and busted a bunch of my chompers so today I’m sporting veneers and giving Tuesday the biggest, toothiest grin I can muster. You gotta keep on pushing if you want to wear those Party Pants proudly, so let’s see where we can sport ‘em this evening.

Local horn-man-with-a-plan (I just made that up. Apologies, Kyle) Kyle Hardy is joining forces with some other talented Portland musicians for a night of jazz at the Armory Lounge in Portland tonight. Be sure to check out their free set starting right around 6:30 this evening.

Down at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in the Old Port, The Grumps’ bassist, Mike Krapovicky goes solo with a set of acoustic tunes this evening. Check out this free event starting right around 7 o’clock.

Another Tuesday night means that Empire Dine and Dance on Congress Street will be getting all kinds of smooth tonight with Yacht Blooded: A Live Smooth 70s AM Radio Party. Starting right around 8 you can check out local musicians, Scott Girouard and Will Gattis as they team up to do such covers as Hall and Oates, Ambrosia, Gerry Rafferty, Michael McDonald and many more. It’s free and super fun, so swing on by and check it out.

I will admit that I am pretty excited for this week’s Cover to Cover at The Big Easy in Portland as it means I can revert to the jaded, angsty teenager I once was many, many moons ago as local act Builder of the House takes on Bright Eyes’ Lifted, Or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground. I loved that album with all of my little, black heart when it came out in 2002 so I am very excited to see Rob Cimitile and company bring it to life in its entirety this evening. Not only can you get super emo and have some secret cries during the cover portion of the night, but you’ll also be treated to an opening set of original tunes from Builder of the House to start things off. AND, you get a $5 gift card to El Rayo Taqueria at the door so after you get all emotional at the show you can go to the restaurant and eat and drink your feelings the next day – perfection! Come on down and cry it out with us starting at 9 o’clock, it’s certain to be a treat for any Conor Oberst lovers out there!

Another edition of Drop It: Open Decks Night is happening once again at Flask Lounge in Portland.  Starting at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open tables, all you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones! This event is absolutely free-of-charge and always a good time, so go on and check it out.

Kick back to some experimental jazz tonight over to Local 188 on Congress Street where the Jaw Gems will be doing their thing starting right around 10pm. It’s free, there are delicious cocktails to be drank, and everyone is certain to be in a mellowed out mood, so swing on by and check it out.
