Bluegrass AND Hip Hop!? Check out Gangstagrass at this week's Rap Night at The Big Easy

Here we go, if we can hurdle this hump we’ll be on the home stretch towards the freakin’ weekend, babies!  Luckily there’s a bunch of cool mid-week parties happening all around town, so let’s do it to it and power on through this Hump Day!

Lorraine Bohland and Terry Foster team up this Wednesday evening for a night full of jazz, blues and R&B classics down at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in the Old Port. Check out this talented duo as they provide the soundtrack for your midweek wind down starting right around 6 o’clock.

Tonight the Stonecoast Readers Series presents a celebration of Black History Month featuring Lady Zen and The Gentlemen at Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland. Beginning at 7, bear witness to the incomparable Lady Zen as she celebrates Black History Month with her unique take on soul, jazz and R&B. Zen will be joined by her talented backing band The Gentlemen so be sure to swing on by and check it out tonight.

Down at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in the Old Port the Squid Jiggers return to the stage with their own brand of folk music that’s infused with barley, sugar, yeast and hops – basically some good ol’ fashioned drinking music! Tonight the fellas get the good times rollin’ right around 8. It’s free and they certainly won’t run out of beer, so check it out.

Check out some free open mic action over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland tonight for this week’s installment of their open mic night. Starting at 8 o’clock you can check out local musicians sing some songs or even sign up to play some tunes of your own. Hosted by local singer-songwriter, Dustin Saucier tonight’s event is absolutely free. Following the open mic portion of the evening, stick around to take in some tunes from local singer-songwriter, Henry Hoagland who performs a set starting at 10.

Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland presents the first installment of Unknown Pleasures, a post-punk, synth-pop, new wave, goth-industrial throwdown dance party. The fun starts at 9 o’clock and is absolutely free so check it out.

This week’s Clash of the Titans at Empire Dine and Dance on Congress Street in Portland presents the best TV themes and commercial jingles from the 80s and 90s. Whether you were way into Pee-Wee’s Playhouse or sang along to the entire Drew Carey Show theme song, this show is for the boob-tube aficianado in you! Check it out as things get started upstairs right around 9 o’clock tonight.

Tonight Rap Night at The Big Easy on Market Street in Portland presents the one and only Gangstagrass. These dudes blend bluegrass and hip-hop together for an unlikely recipe for success. It definitely sounds like an interesting mix, so open your mind and check it out tonight as things get started right around 9.
