All right, here it is, the dreaded Monday after a long holiday weekend. However, there’s no need to fret, my pets, as this Monday night will help alleviate the stress of getting back into the groove of being a responsible human being. And if worse really does come to worse, you can always induce a food coma during your lunch break by pounding as much leftover turkey into your grocery hole as humanly possible. Just an idea, but do make sure you wake up in time to check out all the happenings that are going down this Monday evening.
Local folk-rock artist Brian Patricks will be playing a handful of original tunes coupled with classics that you know and love over at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland this Monday evening. Patricks begins his set right around 6 o’clock and will rock you on in to the 9 o’clock hour.
If you’re looking to grab a beverage and enjoy some bluegrass in an atmosphere that would be the complete and total opposite of anything you might have experienced if you were out shopping on Black Friday, head on over to Empire Dine and Dance in Portland where North of Nashville will be doing their thing for this week’s edition of Bluegrass Monday. Jay and Andrew of the local roots Americana act, This Way, infuse their love of pop mucis with a bit of bluegrass for a sound that is sure to make you move this Monday evening. It’s a free show and should be an awesome time, so check it out beginning at 8 o’clock this evening.
Of course you can always check out a little open mic action over at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland this evening where drink slinger and music aficionado Evan Walsh will be hosting what he calls ‘a talent show for adults, but without the prize.’ Walsh encourages you to get creative and play some music, tell some jokes or show off any other entertaining skills you might have. There will be instruments available to use and drink specials aplenty, so head over to RiRa and check it out around 8 o’clock tonight.
Oklahoma’s dark Americana five-piece act, Other Lives, takes the stage of SPACE Gallery in Portland tonight. Boasting multi-instrumentalist members, this band is sure to awe you with their meticulously crafted tunes that will be brought to life on stage this evening alongside opener’s Indians. This evening’s soaring show begins at 8 o’clock.
Monday also marks another weekly jam session known as The Players Ball over at The Big Easy in Portland. Tonight’s event is for musicians and music lovers alike as you can bring your instrument(s) and come play with other cats from around town, or simply come watch some of your favorite artists do their thing on stage. Things get fun and funky beginning at 9 o’clock this evening.
