I know that some of you might actually have today off, but I am in full Monday mode and am very thankful for those people all around town who know how much Mondays can take it out of you and have therefore created evenings full of music to make everyone forget the painful transition into another work week. So if it is necessary, dissolve any Case of the Mondays by checking out some tunes around town tonight. Here’s what’s on the docket for this Monday evening.
Every Monday during the month of January Portland rock n’ roll act Lord Earth is geared up to play some tunes over at the Flask Lounge on Spring Street. Each week the band teams up with a different local opener for a night of music. Things get started right around 8 o’clock with no cover, cheap drinks and fine entertainment. Tonight psych-rockers Arcane Lore get things going with some blues-infused rock n’ roll. It should be one heck of a show, so check it out early this Monday evening
If you’re looking to check out something super fun and smacking of a certain sort of free-ness then check out the open mic night that’ll be happening over at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland where Evan Walsh hosts his own version of an adult talent show starting right around 8. EvGuy’s got instruments available and if you can’t actually play, he’ll help you by jamming out a version of a song for you to sing along to. Grab some pals and check it out!
More in the way of free fun is happening downstairs at Empire Dine and Dance on Congress Street in Portland where North of Nashville play their regular Monday night gig. Starting right around 8 the local duo play bluegrass-tinged tunes served up with a healthy dose of country twang. From catch originals to toe-tapping covers, these fellas are certain to make your Monday multitudes better!
You can always get down on this Monday by making your way down to The Big Easy on Market Street in Portland for another installment of The Players Ball. Tonight you can get funky and jam out with some of the local music scene’s best players at The Players Ball, which features a house band of some super talented musicians such as Adam Frederick, Max Cantlin, Dan Boyden, Chas Lester and more. Each and every Monday night these cool cats get together to play tunes not only with one another, but also with anyone who shows up to the evening with an instrument. It’s a great time for musicians and music lovers alike, so check it out starting right around 9 o’clock tonight.
If you’re up in the Hallowell area tonight be sure to stop by Slates where a band of local musicians come together to groove out on some pop and R&B jams. Beginning at 8pm you can check out the one and only Robby Coffin Combo as they keep things shaking all night long.
