Anna Lombard celebrates the release of her debut solo album at Port City Music Hall tonight

Yeah, yeah, I know. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I have never, ever been happier to see Friday arrive. This week felt like a kick to the head and I’m ready to let my freak flag fly and take in some live tuneage over the next couple of days. Let’s start with tonight as this Friday is gearing up to be one helluva party. Here we go!

The Big Easy in Portland is gearing up for a full afternoon, evening, and night of the best ska around as they welcome the Mash It Up Ska Fest to the stage for two back-to-back shows this Friday. Both shows will feature performances by Bim Skala Bim, The Beat Horizon, El Grande, Pecan Sandies, The Skastitutes and Sonic Libido as well as DJ Jr. Jive spinning tunes between sets. This afternoon’s all ages show gets underway at 3pm, followed by a 21+ party at 9.

A truly terrific evening of the best Americana, folk, rock, and indie jams around will be taking over Three Tides in Belfast this evening for their Harborfest Launch Party. Starting at 5 o’clock, you can check out this all ages event that’ll feature the pleasing sounds of The Toughcats, The Ghost of Paul Revere, When Particles Collide, and Whale Oil.

Another Nashville-style Songwriters in the Round event will be taking place at the wonderful Blue on Congress Street in Portland this finally Friday evening. Tonight they welcome three terrific songwriters to the circle for a set of tunes and tales that’ll get underway right around 6. Anticipate great songs from great writers such as Shanna Underwood, Scott Link, formerly of Diesel Doug and the Long Haul Truckers, and one of the hardest working rockabilly frontmen around, Sean Mencher.

If you’re up in Auburn this evening and looking to have your skull rattled a bit then check out some live, local, and loud metal at Club Texas tonight. Starting at 7 you can check out sets from Project1313, Forward Momentum Prophecy, Flothru, Seize the Vatican, Ascent to Power and Candy Striper Death Orgy.

If you’re looking for something a little less metal and more on the rock n’ roll side of things this evening then head down to Bayside Bowl in Portland where a handful of acts will be doing it to it this evening. Beginning at 7 o’clock you can check out tunes from local acts Where’s My Friend, Death Rattle, An Anderson, and Family Planning as well as Boston’s New England Patriots (nope, not what you think, just a really clever band name).

Spend this summer evening jamming out with Band Beyond Description out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street. If this sounds like your Dead Head dream come true, then mosey on over to the spot right around 7 o’clock.

98.9 WCLZ and Baxter Brewing present Anna Lombard’s album release party for her debut solo album, Head Full of Bells at Port City Music Hall in Portland tonight. Anna is no stranger to the Portland music scene having spent time with Gypsy Tailwind and most recently anna & the diggs, but for the first time she ventures forth on her own with powerful performances full of intense, emotive lyrics as well as soaring, full-range vocals. Anna’s band for the evening features a talented cast of local musicians such as Jon Roods, Trent Gay, Sean Morin, Eric Bettencourt and Sara Hallie Richardson. Local soul singer Lyle Divinsky opens the show with a set of tunes starting at 8 o’clock.

Mathew’s in Portland goes metal this Friday with bombastic sets of tunes from Render, In Harms Way and The Secret of Esrever. Things get cranked up to eleven around 8 o’clock tonight.

Female Performer of the Year in the New England Music Awards, Sarah Blacker, returns to Portland tonight with a show at One Longfellow Square to commemorate the release of her latest album, Precious Little Things. Hailed for innovative songwriting and inviting vocals, Sarah is definitely a unique songstress to keep on your radar. Things are going to get fun and funky up at Gutheries in Lewiston as People From Earth take to the stage to make sure you get on down with your bad self all night long. The party starts at 8 o’clock.

Y’all are gonna hate me for continuously saying this, but our summer evenings to be spend out on a deck drinking cold beers and enjoying some tunes are numbered. Hang on to these moments down at The Pier Patio Pub in Old Orchard with some live, hip-hop courtesy of JB5. These cats will be bringing the Friday night thunder to the pier starting at 9 o’clock.
