We are slowly but surely easing our way into the freakin’ weekend. It’s been one heck of a week and I am so very ready to hoist up my Party Pants and do it to it this evening. If you’re picking up what I’m laying down, then here are some haps for you to check out tonight!
Local acoustic duo Uke n’ Smile will be doing some good as they team up with the My Place Teen Center in Westbrook to perform at the organization’s Fund-A-Kid Celebration Awards. Tonight’s event starts at 5 o’clock at this wonderful organization who’s mission is to provide a safe haven for youth sustaining them with comfort, meals, resources, and hope. If you’re in the area early this Thursday evening be sure to stop on by.
You can also check out some Happy Hour tunes courtesy of singer-songwriter Michael Krapovicky this Thursday as he plays a acoustic set of songs at Rooster’s in Augusta this evening. Michael will be playing some original material as well as some tried-and-true covers at this free event, which gets underway at 5:30.
One of my favorite soul singing dude’s, Lyle Divinsky is still hanging around and ready to once again lay down some smooth soul, cool funk and rapturous R&B tunes at another free show over at The Porthole on Commercial Street tonight. Lyle and a few of his pals will be serenading you from 6 to 9 tonight, so stop through and check things out.
SPACE Gallery and the Friends of Congress Square Park continue to team up to keep spinnin’ the jams during their DJ in the Park series as they welcome Sweetleaf and Herb to tonight’s free party as the DJ duo brings you the best psych, rock & roll, garage, and more during this all ages event. Chill out in Congress Square Park and enjoy some great tunes starting at 6 o’clock.
Local rockers and rollers The Joint Chiefs will be live on the Portland Lobster Company deck this Thursday evening. Starting at 6 these fellas will get the good times and good tunes rollin’ with a set of high-energy and big fun songs at this free, all ages show.
Steve Jones and a few friends will be making some noise up at The Liberal Cup in Hallowell this Thursday evening. Jones blends everything from rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, roots and more to create some mighty fine sounds that are guaranteed to please. If you’re in the area be sure to stop through and have some fun as things get underway at 7pm.
Treat yourself to some delicious Sicilian-style pizza paired with some live musical stylings of Monarck Lisa, Slab’s resident house band featuring horns, keys, a full rhythm section and the talented Clara Junken as tonight’s free shindig out on the Slab patio gets started right around 7 o’clock.
Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in the Old Port welcomes back talented local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett for a set of songs that showcase his distinctive blend of acoustic pop and funk. Things get underway right around 7 at this free, fun and all ages event.
Chris Isaak returns to Maine this evening for a show at the Collins Center for the Arts at UMO in Orono. Known for his powerful voice and unforgettable live performance, anticipate Isaak and his band to roll through such hits as Wicked Game, Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing and Somebody’s Crying as well as new tracks from his latest album, Beyond The Sun, which is a tribute to the days of Sun Studio producer Sam Phillips who helped to create tracks for such artists as Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and more. Tonight’s event gets underway at 7pm.
Listenable and insane, that’s the sound that Dawn of Midi is known for making. The NYC act brings their rhythmic and experimental electronic set to the stage of SPACE Gallery in Portland tonight alongside Cookies and Pastel Sound Explosion, which features members from such local acts as Theodore Treehouse, Lovers of Fiction, Butcher Boy and more. Music starts at 8 o’clock this Thursday evening.
If you’re getting your weekend pre-game on down in Saco tonight, check out a free rock n’ roll show at The Run of the Mill with local act Tilden Katz as the fellas take to the stage right around 8 o’clock.
The Oak and The Ax on Main Street in Biddeford still has a handful of terrific shows to take in before they close down at the start of October. Tonight you can check out sets of songs from Alula, an experimental folk collaboration between Brooklyn-based Isabel Castellvi and Maine’s own Mike O’Hehir, and The Reverie Machine which features Meghan Yates, powerful vocals intertwined with some progressive and impressive instrumentation. Empire in Portland welcomes The Nuclear Show to the stage for a night of a million laughs to help the venue celebrate a full year of entertainment on Congress Street. Starting at 9 get your funny bone tickled by some of the area’s most hilarious and talented comedians. Tonight’s laughapalooza will be hosted by Mr. Travis Curran.
If you’re looking to shake your can to some quality house music tonight then make your way over to Flask Lounge in Portland for this Thursday’s Techno is for Lovers event featuring Hjort & St. Pierre, DJ Marcus Caine and j.hjort. Shake it on out at this free dance party as things get underway at 9.
If you’re looking for some rock n’ roll in Portland tonight make some moves to Geno’s on Congress Street where The Gamma Goochies, The Flipsides, Tommy and the Rats and Radartradar will be tearing things up starting at 9 o’clock.

Local talented troubadours Samuel James and Dana Gross join musical forces to bring you a night of music at Blue on Congress Street in Portland. Starting at 9 this duo of dynamic dudes will be singing some songs, plucking some guitar strings, and sharing some stories to enhance your Thursday evening, so be sure to stop in and check things out.
Sonny’s in the Old Port hosts the ultra-swanky musical duo known as Humperdinck Humperdink and Glass Joe (aka Corey Gagne and Pete Dugas) in the lounge as the duo serves up an entire evening of old school tunes. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about this terrific twosome who blend equal parts Bowie with Radiohead for a sound…and style…that is truly all their own. Check it out for yourself as tonight’s free shindig gets shaking around 9.
Gorilla Finger Dub Band pumps out the roots, reggae, and dub-step jams at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port again tonight as part of their Thursday night residency. These dudes take to the stage at 9:30 for a free party filled with all things reggae and dub.
Vinyl Tap will be back at it tonight as they play a plethora of songs that are certain to get your Thursday rocking. Starting at 10 you can check these cats out as they cover everything from Stevie Wonder to The Beatles, Huey Lewis, Elton John, Charlie Daniels, Cee Lo and a ton more down at Gritty’s on Fore Street in Portland.
