This week I feel like we are all solid, shining examples of doing it to it as we found ourselves successfully hurdling the hump known as Wednesday to land on our feet right into Thursday. That endeavor deserves a pat on the back, so consider this my virtual pat, pat, pat. Anyway, lots and lots and great stuff happening all around town tonight to help us ease into the freakin’ weekend, so get out there and get some, my babies! Let’s do it to it, it’s Thursday!
The return of Portland Downtown District’s Alive at 5 concert series happens this evening with two phenomenal acts taking over the stage in Monument Square for a free all ages show. Starting at 5 check out the high-energy blues and soul infused rock n’ roll sounds of Brooklyn band The London Souls alongside Portland’s own funk and soul act The Kenya Hall Band. This should be one helluva party, so get out there this evening and have some fun!
Rolling Rock Concert Series presents a night of local rock that is guaranteed to blow the doors off The Skybox Bar and Grill in Westbrook tonight. Starting at 5 o’clock and for only 5 bucks you can check out some high-energy, rock n’ roll sets from BELT, Heart Shaped Rock, Doubting Gravity, Society Inc, Mercury Landing, Builder of the House and Ukulelien.
Local psychedelic folk-rocker Dominic Lavoie and a few of his friends will be playing some tunes out on the Portland Lobster Company deck this Thursday evening starting right around 6. Enjoy some cocktails and delicious eats as you take in this free show from Dom and the fellas that’ll most likely include both cover tunes and original material.
Rocking and or rolling seems to be the theme of this Thursday as two legendary classic rock acts join forces on stage tonight up at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor. Check out some electrifying rock n’ roll from Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company tonight as things get underway right around 6 with opening sets from the Dead Daisies, which features members of INXS, Guns N’ Roses, Billy Idol, Ozzy and more, as well as blues rocker Steve Rodgers (son of Bad Co. frontman Paul Rodgers). Andy’s Old Port Pub in Portland welcomes back local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett for a set of songs that will showcase his unique blend of acoustic pop and funk. I’m pretty certain I don’t need to clue you guys in on who Snoop Dogg is and what he’s all about because it’s a pretty well known fact that he is, without a doubt, The Doggfather, even despite his recent name change to Snoop Lion. All I know is that if my mum had actually heard some of his records that I was listening to in middle school (and beyond) they probably would’ve been confiscated pretty quickly. All that aside, Snoop returns to Portland for a live show at The Expo tonight alongside local emcees Cam Groves and B. Aull. Don’t miss out on tonight’s open mic event happening at the newly relocated Meg Perry Center on Market Street in Portland. If you’re up in Rockland tonight, head over to The Speakeasy where local prog-rock act The 220s will be playing some songs for ya. The 220s take their influences from The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Rush and more to create a sound that is truly all their own and certainly pleasing to any discerning ear. If you’re a fan of The Beatles then you’ll probably wanna get yourself over to The Run of The Mill in Saco this evening to check out The Beatleitos, which features such talented musicians as Scott King, Jeff King, Erik Glockler, Mark Matzell, and Bob Colwell, playing some super familiar British rock. All things fab get started right around 8 o’clock.
Throw your Thursday straight into fun mode with some serious good times this evening courtesy of folk-pop act The Dapper Gents as they play a free show at The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach. I’m going to need to do some stretches, take some vitamins, and properly hydrate before making my way down to catch this epic rock and roll double header featuring local acts Whale Oil and Murcielago. Starting at 8 get your hair blown back and your earholes properly pulverized with some of the heaviest stoner rock around courtesy of Murcielago as well as checking out some high-energy garage rockers from Whale Oil. Lots of fun to be had at this 18+ show that boasts only a $5 cover, so get there early and rock out late this Thursday evening.
Local rock n’ roll act Lord Earth is combining forces with impressively awesome DJ/producer Don Damiani and 3D visual projections artist VJ Psychologist for a party this is certain to blow the roof of Flask Lounge in Portland tonight.
