Looking to get into winter hiking and mountain climbing? Been away from the sport for awhile and want to refresh you skills?
This highly informative session – free and open to the public – will be held at the Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant Street in Brunswick. Pre-registration is required. To register, please email workshop leader Laura Flight or call 215-5306 (before 9 p.m. please).
Savvy winter hikers and AMC Maine Chapter leaders Peter Broderick and Laura Flight will discuss clothing, gear, snow travel, and other essential knowledge and techniques to prepare you for outdoor outings in the winter.
“This workshop covers it all, from an indoor preparation session in the morning, to an easy outdoor session in the afternoon that demonstrates knowledge learned indoors, with a potluck lunch in between,” said Flight.
The event is intended as an introduction course for experienced three-season hikers and a refresher for experienced winter adventurers. Although the focus of the workshop is on hiking in the winter, many of the topics apply to any outdoor winter outing.
“This workshop will be an excellent “things-you-need-to-know-before-you-go” for anyone who plans to spend time out-of-doors this winter,” Flight noted. “Winter really is the best season in Maine. Embrace it with the respect that it deserves and prepare yourself to be wowed.”
