Jonesing for some warm and sunny California hiking

Last Sunday in the Maine Sunday Telegram I wrote about three of my favorite desert hiking getaways in Southern California: Death Valley National Park, Mojave National Preserve and Joshua Tree National Park.

Check out “‘Tis the season for trekking the Southwest” for the entire article, which describes the best trails to hike (where there are trails) at each park, in my humble opinion.

Today’s weather, gray, damp, cold, rainy and generally yucky, well, it did nothing for my spirit and probably not for yours either. Yep, we need some warm and sunny days we do. But for this guy, getting away for a cross country trip to the Golden State just ain’t gonna happen this spring, sadly.

But for you? Maybe you can pack your hiking goods and some warm weather duds and go and have a good time for me? Please and thanks! Take photos and send a postcard, will you.

Meantime, while you’re deciding, here’s some pics that just wouldn’t all squeeze into the newspaper article. A smidgen of motivation perhaps. Enjoy. And then get making those airline reservations, will you please.
