Three local jewelry designers you probably don’t know about yet (but should)

By: Laura Serino

Now that the holiday season is fast approaching, you’re going to hear me urging you to buy local, especially when it comes to gift-giving–or self-giving if you consider yourself a Grinch. But buying locally doesn’t have to mean heading out into the Old Port on the weekend (though I highly recommend that too). If you’ve resigned yourself to being an online shopper, here’s three new-to-me Portland-based designers with online shops.

1. Handmade by Bleubird
With a huge shopping selection of jewelry and hair accessories online (over 300 pieces at last count), this jewelry designer has tons of vintage-inspired pieces and romantical, whimsical designs. And the most expensive pieces in her shop is currently $37 so you won’t be breaking the bank here. I’ve ordered from her before and her items ship quickly and come sweetly wrapped.

2. Fluxed
If modern, minimalist silver pieces are your thing, bookmark Fluxed for handcrafted sterling silver pieces. This metal and enamel artist can also create custom pieces if you’re looking to give something truly unique.

Gemstone and silver stacking rings, $22

3. Eklund Griffin

Unique, handcrafted pieces that are destined to be conversation pieces around your neck with styles made from everything from lobster bands to twine. Sounds hard to pull off? Be amazed at how elegant a cluster of green lobby bands can look.  And bonus: you can pick up handmade greeting cards too.
