Portland-based sea bags collaborates with woolrich

By: Laura Serino

Our very own Portland-based Sea Bags, the original recycled sail purveyors, have collaborated with Woolrich to create a limited-edition line of totes, dopp kits and iPad cases (prices range from $40-$350). The bags are crafted from a combination of wool exteriors lined in sails or sailcloth lined in wool.

Sea Bags has been based in Portland since 2006, where founders Hannah Kubiak and Beth Shissler wanted to start a company that was truly green in product and practice. Each sail bag is double layered so that even the older, less white sailcloths can be used to line the totes. They’ve even extended the line to create products from smaller scrap sail to create items like coin purses or coasters.

For the collaboration with Woolrich, fabric was hand selected using the woolen mill’s private stock of end runs. These bags are repurposed in the truest sense: once the fabric from Woolrich runs out, so does the line. Be sure to pick one up before that happens. Now the question remains, which plaid variation shall I choose?
