Coupons Are For Poor People…and Other Lies I Told Myself
There was a time (not too long ago) that I wouldn’t have been caught dead using a coupon. I once even went so far as to publicly chastise the idea of a dude using a coupon on a first date. But that was then…and this is now..oh boy how far I’ve fallen….errr…how far I’ve come.
Long before I got divorced and found myself in a small two bedroom West End apartment with two small children, I owned a home in the burbs, had a great paying job and was of the mindset that coupons were for poor people, and since I didn’t consider myself poor…I did not need coupons. I was happy to hand over my hard earned money for goods such as groceries, clothing, manicures & fancy dinners. Honestly, the thought of using a coupon back then would’ve caused me to break out in a panic induced sweat…which ironically is just as unsexy as using coupons..or so I thought.
Fast forward a few years and I found myself divorced and self-employed and wondering how the hell I was going to support my lifestyle on a single income…a self-employed single income at that! And just like that….I allowed coupons in my life. Some people find Jesus at a time like that…I found coupons and my life has never been the same.
It sounds corny doesn’t it? Coupons changed my life. It’s corny..but it’s true. Thanks to coupons and smart spending I am more financially stable that I ever was…even when I was married. I just built a brand new house and I’m still self-employed doing something that I love…teaching others how to take control of their finances through smart spending.
