Smithsonian Exhibition at Museum L-A in Lewiston - postponed @ Museum L-A | Lewiston | Maine | United States

NOTE: Opening Reception is postponed to Friday, Feb. 15 from 4-7 p.m.

The Way We Worked, a traveling exhibition from The Smithsonian, is making its only stop in Maine at Museum L-A in Lewiston! Adapted from an original exhibit developed by the National Archives, this exhibition explores how work became a central element in American culture by tracing the many changes that affected the workforce and work environments over the past 150 years. It draws from the Archives’ rich photographic collections to tell this compelling story with graphics, audio components, photo flipbooks, film and numerous artifacts on the history of our national workforce. To connect the local scene with this national exhibit, Museum L-A will showcase the importance of music as a local industry and how the types of work, dress codes, tools and technology have changed over time in Lewiston-Auburn. The Way We Worked tour is made possible by Historic New England. The Way We Worked at Museum L-A is also funded by a grant from the Maine Humanities Council and by the generosity of many supporters, including: Procter & Gamble, Center Street Dental and Gleason Media Services. In a related exhibition, textile artist and colorist Fransje Killars represents the occupation of “artist” in Fransje Killaars: Color at the Center, which is being presented at Museum L-A and at the Bates College Museum of Art from January 26 through March 22. The Way We Worked will be at Museum L-A through May 4, 2013. Museum L-A is located at 35 Canal Street, Lewiston, in the Bates Mill Complex, and open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and students.
